Why US Universities and Colleges are 'sucking hind tit.'
India has come up with the world's cheapest "laptop," a touch-screen computing device that costs $35.
India's Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal this week unveiled the low-cost computing device that is designed for students, saying his department had started talks with global manufacturers to start mass production.
"We have reached a (developmental) stage that today, the motherboard, its chip, the processing, connectivity, all of them cumulatively cost around $35, including memory, display, everything," he told a news conference.
He said the touchscreen gadget was packed with Internet browsers, PDF reader and video conferencing facilities but its hardware was created with sufficient flexibility to incorporate new components according to user requirement.
Sibal said the Linux based computing device was expected to be introduced to higher education institutions from 2011 but the aim was to drop the price further to $20 and ultimately to $10.
The device was developed by research teams at India's premier technological institutes, the Indian Institute of Technology and the Indian Institute of Science.

Because other countries are making cheaper products?
Because they use linux?
So what in the article makes that the fault of US universities?

U.S. universities are sucking hind tit because they insist on "diversity" and will not allow diverse opinions.

I don't disagree. I fail to see what that has to do with cheap laptops in India.

No. You made a true observation, in my opinion. I agree that one reason U.S. universities "are sucking hind tit" is exactly as you say.
I also blame public schools that graduate kids that aren't ready for college and the seeming wave of anti-intellectualism that seems to be sweeping the country. I also blame universities with too many "basket-weaving" degrees and not enough practical ones
Sam's argument is the one that came up short, not yours.

Jim, I guess you really are not a Leo.
When Leo's are right ..... they are not afraid of standing up and being counted.
And you were right, to wit:
U.S. universities are sucking hind tit because they insist on "diversity" and will not allow diverse opinions.
If U.S. universities were not so busy insisting on "diversity" and pushing their Socialist liberal agenda ....... and most every tenured Professor making sure that none of their students or understudies achieve greater success or recognization than they themselves claim .......... then their students or understudies could have developed that $25 laptop PC ..... or who know what.
As long as the Socialist liberal Professor are permitted to force their underlings to "think like they do", ...... thus "not allowing them to voice diverse opinions", .......... then their underlings will never ever be as good as their Professors because their Professors will never ever teach said underlings everything that said Professor knows.
Which of course insures the "status" of said Professors.
So James, don't be letting that, uh, Professor be disallowing your "freethinking" abilities ........... or before ya know it you will be thinking "just like he does".

And James, this ought to convince you that "the Professor is always right".

US Univeristies are sucking the hind tit because they are dominated by socialists far more interested in redistribution of wealth than actually providing the poor with the tools necessary to improve their station in life.
Why not use Linux? Why must we insist on taxpayers funding the cost of the greed and avarice of Microsoft instead of teaching youngsters to use something far more affordable?
