Public Education Funding truly run amuck.
Amid ongoing budget woes, LA unveils nation's most expensive school with $578M price tag
LOS ANGELES – Next month's opening of the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools will be auspicious for a reason other than its both storied and infamous history as the former Ambassador Hotel, where the Democratic presidential contender was assassinated in 1968.
With an eye-popping price tag of $578 million, it will mark the inauguration of the nation's most expensive public school ever.
The K-12 complex to house 4,200 students has raised eyebrows across the country as the creme de la creme of "Taj Mahal" schools, $100 million-plus campuses boasting both architectural panache and deluxe amenities.
"New buildings are nice, but when they're run by the same people who've given us a 50 percent dropout rate, they're a big waste of taxpayer money," said Ben Austin, executive director of Parent Revolution
The RFK complex follows on the heels of two other LA schools among the nation's costliest — the $377 million Edward R. Roybal Learning Center, which opened in 2008, and the $232 million Visual and Performing Arts High School that debuted in 2009.

But if it had been called the George Bush or Ronald Reagan Community Schools we'd not have heard even a peep about it.

Putnam County is building 4 schools, making repairs to several others and adding gym's to 3 high schools, all for about 100 million dollars and to be honest, that's at least twice what we should be spending.
Are you seriously saying you have no problem with the money some of these schools cost Ziggy?

According to NBC News, this school was funded with a bond passed by voters. The citizens voted for it. Idiots.

No, he's saying that Sam Cogar, a registered democrat, is a republican.

Ziggy, on what do you base this? Do you think that MSNBC woudl not report on a hundreds million school named for Bush or Reagan? Are you, perhaps, a trifle naif:)?

Well, unless I misseed it, so far they haven't. And- just as importantly- Sam has not reported on it here, either.

If I ever find out what that word- naif- means, and if it ain't nice, then you are in big trouble for even suggesting it.

No, these costs are outrageously excessive. But I am saying that if it had been called the George Bush or Ronald Reagan Community Schools, we'd not have heard a peep about the cost.

Re: Public Education Funding truly run amuck.
I disagree. MSNBC would have been all over it, Huffington Post would have ranted for MONTHS and the daily kos would have wailed about how conservatives were going to use the schools to promote religion simply because of the names they bore.
Perhaps Sam would have remained silent, perhaps not but liberals would have been all over it and you know it. You just used this post as an opportunity to bust Sam's balls.
That's not naijf or naive, it's hypocritical, at least in my humble opinion.
