This administration is clearly out of step with the American people, who overwhelmingly do not want the 9/11 planners tried in New York, who overwhelmingly do not want the mosque at Ground Zero and who overwhelmingly do not want Miranda rights for terrorists.

But it is not just the president. It is all of Washington.

Pollster Scott Rasmussen has taken to polling "mainstream Americans" and the "political class."

The results are fascinating.

Only 29 percent of mainstreamers approve of Obama's job performance, but 96 percent of the political class do.

Only 13 percent of the mainstreamers think the country is headed in the right direction, but 83 percent of the political class like where we are headed.
