What country has the best medical care?
AMMAN, Jordan — Jordan's Royal Palace says Queen Rania has undergone a medical procedure in New York to correct an irregular heartbeat.
The 40-year-old Rania accompanied her husband, King Abdullah II, who attended the U.N. General Assembly meetings in New York. She also attended separate functions, including a panel on empowering girls.
A spokesman for the queen said Monday that Rania had a procedure known as catheter ablation, in which doctors inserted a catheter into a blood vessel and used an electric current to restore a normal heart rhythm.

Do worry, Prezbro and his lacky congress will be more than willing to take care of wrecking our helathcare system. They'll get it to the point, that the only one's that can afford healthcare are Oil Sheiks.

Re: What country has the best medical care?
We have a great system - if you have millions to pay for the best care in the country.
If you are indigent, you are screwed.
France has the best system, according to the WHO a year or two ago and NZ had the best care per dollar spent (the most efficient).
The US, out of all industrialized nations, had the worst care per dollar spent (the least efficient).

And our President and Congress signed into law a bill that will decrease our healthcare while increasing the cost. They have made the situation worse, not better.

That may be so and I have admitted that. They are not, however, pretending that we are the "A#1, the best" and that the problem doesn't need to be addressed.

Re: What country has the best medical care?
There's no pretending to it. We are the A#1 best in the world. That's why people from all over the world, including France, come to America when they need the A#1 best care.
As for Obama, he didn't address the problem, which is cost, he rewarded insurance companies and pharmaceuticals by guaranteeing them new customers on the taxpayer's dime.
If he truly wanted to address the problem, he had a mandate but he FUBAR'ed that beyond recognition. He could have studied models that work like Singapore's or implemented measures that reigned in cost like eliminating fee per service or addressed malpractice cost through tort reform but he did none of that. He rewarded unions and those who elected him. The man’s a joke, plain and simple.

Name one French national that has come here for medical care. If they are so common, you should have no problem.
People do come here - if they have $$$$$. Can you afford the Mayo?

You said he addressed the problem, which we all agree is cost. How did he do that? What did he do to reign in cost? Seems to me you're the one lacking in proving your point, not me.

I didn't say they addressed the problem in any way shape or form and I agreed that the fed may be going about this the wrong way.
What I DID say is that at least they are not pretending there isn't a problem, as the first poster in this thread did.

Re: What country has the best medical care?
I misread what you said on the addressed part. My bad.
I'm curious though, if a drunk admits he has a problem but starts following his shots with pills, what good does admitting he has a drinking problem do?
And I don't see how Sam said we didn't have a problem regarding cost. What I got from what he said was pointed about the level of our care in this country to which many question as being the best in the world.
I believe we have the best care in the world.

Re: What country has the best medical care?
Please, it isn't the "indigent" who are screwed. It's the working class who are screwed. Let's at least be honest about the situation.

I know several indigent kinda familes that are afforded better health care than PEIA affords to you.
Especially the females in those families that get pregnant ..... from being screwed.

I don't know. I do know that you can't fix anything until you admit a problem exists.
TerryRC,
Do you know someone on Medicaid?
Yes. I also know someone that survived cancer treatments after being treated as a hypochondriac. By the time a doctor finally took it seriously, it was almost too late. During a follow up surgery, an anesthesiologist failed to pay attention to obvious allergy warnings in this person's medical file and put this person into a coma for three days. They survived with evidence of a minor stroke.
Oh, yes. I know someone on medicaid.
Even I, with my moderately decent care, got misdiagnosed for a year. For a year I took a powerful drug that is used in chemotherapy but also as a treatment for arthritis. I knew I had tendon damage - a form of atypical trigger finger - in both hands.
But, since treating with pills is cheap, my HMO insisted, on advice of the hand specialist, on me being poisoned for a year, risking severe liver damage. When I finally insisted on an MRI, I was proven right. The specialist was pissed - he knew it wasn't arthritis and he was making a fortune on something that was never going to heal. He was either incompetent or very greedy.
Our system is only the best when you have millions to spend.

Re: What country has the best medical care?
No system works when a patient goes along with what they disagree with. That's just stupid. What kind of rube would take a pill for a year if they believed it wasn't helping them. Geeze Terry, you've said a lot of stuff I question but that one takes the cake.
Had you insisted on the MRI to the point of paying for it yourself if the HMO refused, upon discovering the truth, the HMO would have reimbursed you for your cost.
As for the hypochondriac, under national medical plans such as the ones in Canada and Europe, that person would have never had surgery. They wouldn't have wasted their time on the individual.

Re: What country has the best medical care?
TerryRC,
Doctors make mistakes and humans make "convenient" shortcuts. This was true for you and your Medicaid example.
I know a young girl who was born while her mother was on Medicaid, and she got a level of care at Children's Hospital of Illinois that was profuse and appreciated. The hospital bill was 76K, and the parents paid nothing. The neonatologists (well paid) there are second to none.
Point is, Medicaid works because not everyone is on it. Now that Obama will effectively put everyone on it, you will see higher demand for services without the pool of folks paying into it. Remember that these millionaires you have been taught to hate are the ones keeping these hospitals open.

Perhaps you have $2500 in cash for an MRI, I do not. I would have to scrape together $200 to go see a specialist that hadn't been referred by someone in the system.
Poor people go along with the system, Aaron.
Do you also blame rape victims for what happened to them?

And I'm supposed to just take your word on that based upon your encyclopedic knowledge of the Canadian health care system? Upon your vast knowledge of EVERY health care system in Europe?
Please.

My doctor didn't make a mistake, in my opinion, he was milking me for money.
As for my friend, the doctors just didn't care. Not reading a medical file to check on allergies? That anesthesiologist should have had his license pulled.

Perhaps, TerryRC, but how would/will socialized medicine help the situation?

I never said it would, multiple times. All I am saying is that we are no longer sticking our fingers in our ears and saying, "... there is no problem. USA has the best care in the world and nothing is wrong with it...", because that is clearly NOT the case.

Re: What country has the best medical care?
Republicans are not saying that Terry and if you are implying they are, then you're wrong.
As for what you believe your doctor is doing to you, go to another one. Only an idiot would allow that to happen to them and only a complete rube would take a pill they believed to be poisoning them.
You’re rape analogy is garbage.
