NPR's Scott Simon: Shootings Just, 'Didn't Happen When 63 Million Watched Walter Cronkite Every Night
NewsBusters ^ | 1/16/11 | Tim Graham

Long past the time when it was debunked that Tucson shooting suspect Jared Lee Loughner might have been motivated by talk radio or TV, NPR was still entertaining the "vitriol" attack line, as anchor Scott Simon interviewed liberal St. Petersburg Times TV critic Eric Deggans on Saturday morning's Weekend Edition. Simon even bizarrely claimed that this kind of violence didn't happen when "63 million people watched Walter Cronkite every night."

Well, not counting:
JFK- shot in '63
Watts riots '65
RFK- shot in 68
MLK- shot in 68 (followed by the massive riots)
Kent State riots '70 (4 shot)
John Lennon- shot in 1980
Ronald Reagan was shot in March of '81

Kent State riots '70 (4 shot)

Correction: 13 shot- 4 killed at Kent State on May 4, 1970. The shots were ALL fired by Ohio National Guardsmen, sent to the University by Republican Ohio Governor James Rhodes- who was then a candidate for U.S. Senate- and AGAINST the wishes of the University administration. The "riot" was instigated by none other than Rhodes' Ohio National guard.

B-b-but Walter Cronkite made it happen. Just like Rush Limbaugh made Tucson happen. Don't try to obfuscate the issue, Z-man.
