Actually, ... it has failed to satisfy the Democrats
Doubling the national debt failed to satisfy Congress
Ten years ago, in 2001, Congress's so-called "debt ceiling" was $5.95 trillion, where it had stood for four years.
Over the next four years, the nation's budgeters raised their debt limit three times.
In all, members of Congress have raised the debt ceiling nine times in 10 years and likely will have to do so again in May.
The "ceiling" now is $14.294 trillion, more than double what it was 10 years ago.
But even that has failed to slake the desire of some in Washington to spend more than taxpayers can afford to supply.
Today, for every $3 the federal government receives in taxes, Congress borrows $2.

Republicans controlled the Presidency, the Senate and the House of Representaives for half of the ten years in which the debt ceiling has nearly doubled. It's not just Democrats, Republicans are as responsible for our financial woes.

Re: Actually, ... it has failed to satisfy the Democrats
Bill Clinton was responsible for the budget through September, 2001 and George Bush was responsible for the budget through September, 2009. And while Obama's debt will grow this year, it's not official until this budget expires in September. Of course, they have to pass continuing resolutions or raise the debt ceiling before the spending can be calculated. If the government shuts down, it will change the figures.
As it stands now.
Public Debt by President
Bill Clinton-~1.743 Trillion (9/1993 through 9/2001)
George Bush-~6.102 Trillion (9/2001 through 9/2009)
Barrack Obama-~1.652 (9/2009 though 9/2010)
Democrats-3.395 Trillion
Republicans-6.102 Trillion
If this budget ever passes, Obama will likely be looking responsible for a deficit of about 3 trillion dollars, evening up the responsibility between Democrats and Republicans. It's amazing how honesty clears things up.

It's truly amazing how honestly begotten ignorance and stupidity gets people all riled up.
This budget, that budget, some other budget, ....... screw the budget, ...... any budget, ....... because budgets don't mean diddly shit, ...... whether they are Federal Budgets, ...... Flying Spaghetti Monster Budgets, ..... State Budgets, ........ a Single Mother w/4 Kids & HIV Budget, ..... or an AEP Electricity Usage Payment Budget.
Budget figures are nothing more than "estimates" of potential Total Earned Revenue of an entity for a stated Period of Time ....... verses ...... the planned Expenditures by said entity of said expected Revenue during said Period of Time.
If the Earned Revenue equals the Expenditures during said stated Period of Time, ..... then fine, ....... but if not, ........ then said Budget must be revised or be declared as being in Deficit or Surplus, whichever.
Bush vs. Obama Spending the Truth
Spending increased every year through 2008. $730 billion of that spending was attributed to military expenditures. That is about 24% of the government spending. It is safe to assume that the war was a significant contributing factor to the massive deficit. The seven years of high war costs are part of the Bush administration, not Obama. This is obviously a significant factor in understanding the countries path to a large federal deficit.
For clarity, Bush did fund the wars through emergency supplemental’s (not the regular budget process), but the spending is reflected in the numbers above.
Now, we have one full year of factual numbers to dissect Obama’s spending. Let’s take a look at the numbers.
Year ............ GDP-US ............ Total Spending-fed ..... Federal Deficit-total
.....................$ billion ..................... $ billion ................... $ billion
2009 ..........14601.4 ......................3517.7 ................ 1412.7
Obama spent approximately $535 billion more year-over-year then Bush’s highest year of spending. Because of the continuing recession and slowed GDP, the deficit increased by a staggering $960 billion.
$794 billion was spent on military expenditures, more than in 2008 while Bush was still president. That cost is almost a wash, but it is a surprising number considering the anti-war stance Obama drove during his campaign.
I also do not want to confuse the reduction in federal revenue with the increase in our federal deficit. This would be unfair to Obama in comparing his spending to Bush’s spending. Rising unemployment and slowed GDP lead to less tax revenue which also increases the federal deficit.
Obama spent the following in new legislation in 2009.
- TARP Program – $154 billion (money spent during Obama’s administration but passed under Bush)
- American Recovery and Reinvestment Act – $202 billion
- Omnibus Spending Bill – $410 billion
This represents about $766 billion in spending directly attributable to the increase of $960 billion in the federal deficit.

I'm sorry Sam, no matter how many emoticons you use, how many colors you put in your rants or how many font changes you make, you can't change the facts. This mess we're in is not a one trick pony, it's the responsibility of both parties. In fact, that type of partisan thinking is the reason the following statement is true.
SamCogar wrote:Sorry about that Willy, ...... but the pendulum has done swung too far ......... to come back from the brink.
It done went over the brink ...... and is now in free-fall ....... and until it gets through crashing ........ there will be nothing left to do but try to pick up the pieces and fight like hell to reassemble some of them that bests benefits the survivors.
The Romans pretty much ruled the Western World for 400 years ...... but then the Dark Ages ruled for the next 1,500 years.
Me think history is in the process of repeating itself.

Re: Actually, ... it has failed to satisfy the Democrats
So I'm setting here listening to Jeff Blake (R-AZ) talking about the budget deficit and government shutdown and he's saying the entire shutdown is due to the dollar figures and not the rider legislation regarding aborion and funding the EPA.
He's ask the question "If Speaker Bohmer receives a call from President Obama and says they'll meet the Republicans dollar figure but all they have to do is remove rider legislation" would he accept the deal and he states that "We would have to find language we can agree on regarding the use of federal funds and abortion" so the answer is no.
Republicans are using this process to promote thier social agenda with the key item being abortion but according to our resident political expert, none of Washington's problems are the fault of Republicans.
