WOW, this sounds pretty good for a County school system,, right? To wit:

Despite these findings, student achievement was found to be satisfactory. Adequate yearly progress was met for the past five years, according to the report.

Proficiency in math, reading and language arts was above state required percentages in almost all grade levels. For the past five years, the county has achieved a high school graduation rate of 80 percent.


So, “WHY”, do you ask, they did this, to wit:

State school board takes over Gilmer County school system

CHARLESTON, W.Va.--The state Board of Education voted Wednesday to take over supervision of the Gilmer County school system.

Board members also declared the county's schools were in a state of emergency.
