American Electric Power, the nation's largest consumer of coal, has returned a $334 million federal grant to help finance a carbon capture-and-storage project and put the $668 million project on hold.

The company said it could not recoup its costs from ratepayers or attract investment.

It sounds like the end of efforts to preserve coal-fired generation of electric power by making its emissions cleaner.

Extended, it sounds awfully like the beginning of the end of the future for coal in this country, which is what some federal policymakers want.

If the federal government has it wrong, dark days lie ahead.

Here's the kicker. Initial studies have proven that this technecology actually works so if greenhouse gases are the end all to our society AGW's believe it is then they should be screaming from the roof tops to continue construction of these plants.
