Forty-eight ears ago: 11/22/63.
Forty-eight years ago, November 22, 1963, Dean Perry (it was his 14th birthday) and I were sitting in Mrs. Madeira's fourth period speech class at Morgantown Junior High School. Mrs. Thompson, the history teacher, called for Mrs. Madeira to come out into the hallway. We could not hear what was said; but, we could hear them crying. Dean said to me, "I bet Mr. Areford (the principal at MJHS) has died."
Suddenly, Mrs. Madeira came back into the classroom and said, "President Kennedy has been shot and killed in Dallas, Texas. School will be dismissed in a few moments. You are to go directly to your homes."
Dean and I walked home. We did not say a word.
