Is Christ Obama's New Economic Czar?
To The Editor:
Since it is an election year, President Obama is once again going to church and carrying his Bible. He even attended the National Prayer Breakfast last week! He piously claimed, “Jesus would back my tax-the-rich policy.”
Christian faith, the President noted, compels him “to give up some of the tax breaks that I enjoy.” One wonders why his Christian faith hasn’t compelled the modern day Zaccheus to go the extra mile and voluntarily give eighty percent–or more–of his wealth to the US Treasury? (Any repentant socialist can do the same at anytime! All they need to do is make out a check–not to the IRS–to the US Treasury as penance.)
Perhaps most interesting about the President’s speech is what people are NOT saying in its aftermath. For example, President Obama’s claim has not drawn any public concerns about the so-called “separation of church and state” (Barry W. Lynn – where are you?). Only Mormon US Senator Orrin Hatch has so far questioned the President’s cynical quoting of Christ.
Atheists notwithstanding, doesn’t he care–really care–about how this reference to Christ would likely offend minority voting blocks like Jews, Muslims–and even possibly the Jehovah’s Wintesses? Or, is he just trying to pull his sheep’s clothing over the eyes of the majority voting block?
Critics are probably silent for fear of being called racist or anti-Christian. So in the absence of meaningful dialog on the matter, how about if we consider this question: was President Obama right? Is it true that Jesus Christ would stand arm-in-arm with President Obama and support the elevation of effective tax rates on high-earning Americans? Would Christ endorse Obama’s “rich versus poor” tactic? Did Christ come to create class warfare? Or, did Christ come to bring peace?
Perhaps we should “test the spirits to see whether they be of God or not?” There was another person who had less than altruistic motives concerning finances and he also masked the motives in pious terms. John 12:5-6, Judas said… ‘Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?’ This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.”
Another, considered a saint by some, has stated, “Socialism works–until you run out of other people’s money.”

Liberals believe that paying one's taxes equal helping the poor. That is why they give so little to charity. It is also why they cheat on their taxes...
