McCartney horrified by hypocrisy?
Paul McCartney 'horrified' as his eco car is flown 7,000 miles from Japan
By Rob Davies, UK Telegraph
He probably would have wanted to carry it to England piece by piece on his private jet or on his frequent First Class flights.

Sir Paul McCartney is said to be "horrified" that his new eco-friendly car was flown 7,000 miles from Japan.
He probably would have wanted to carry it to England piece by piece on his private jet or on his frequent First Class flights.

I am certain that the people from PETV (People for the Ethical Treatment of Vegetation) feel that is cruel to cut ebony trees.

What bugs me is how many of those cute little polyesters have to die to make me just one pair of pants. And PETA, bought off by the garment industry, hasn't said a word about even one of 'em.

Well I agree with you guys.
Just because the polar ice cap is melting does not mean it is getting warmer.
They say lots of things could cause that.
I dont claim to be an expert on it, but I bet you guys could cite examples of other things that can cause ice to melt besides getting warmer.

sherman, we were having fun at Paul McCartney's expence. Is Paul McCartney a democrat? Do you, too, think he is above our satire?

Global warming exists. Does human activity cause it?

Well I think the preponderance of the evidence is that human activity exacerbates it.
But I base that on the conclusions drawn by a big majority of people with credentials to make such informed observations.
I still believe it should be a scientific discussion not a political decision.

Re: McCartney horrified by hypocrisy?
In light of the fact that those who claim the preponderance of evidence, etc. advocate spending billions of non-productive dollars to combat what may or may not be a natural process or the culmination of natural processes, I'd aver that it is very much a political decision.

So then it is ok to study and recognize the problem?
Just so long as we don't try to avoid it?

Re: McCartney horrified by hypocrisy?
This morning I was going through a construction zone. The speed limit is 50 mph through there. I was going 52 or so. Some peckerwoods from Ohio in a Hummer came up behind me fast and rode right on my bumper the whole way through. At the end I pulled over quick as I don't like to drive in the passing lane and I figured this Buckeyehead was going to love the passing lane as that's where they typically drive. The speed limit went to 35 and the town of Glen Dale is pretty serious about enforcing it. So this clown comes cruising into town at 60 and slams on his brakes to turn into the Farm Fresh.
Now I've been staying at or slightly below the speed limit for the last month and am happy to report that my fuel consumption has gone from 35 mpg to over 38 mpg. I'm pretty tight if you know what I mean. I like to drive fast but I don't want to have to pay to do it. What kind of fuel consumption do you figure Mr. Wienerville was getting?
The point I'm making in my own round-a-bout way is that the costs to address global warming are enormous. And these are costs that you are expecting us to pay right now. Up front. You're talking about a huge chunk of the economy and a drastic lifestyle change. I don't see where anybody is going to be willing to make the sacrifices necessary to reduce carbon emissions. I'm making changes now. What's your average fuel consumption?

Re: McCartney horrified by hypocrisy?
About 35 years ago I got a speeding ticket at Glen Dale. A great big dude named Shane was the officer- the police chief, I think he was.
I was runnin' about 50 comin' north on Rt. 2, and blew right past that big 35 MPH sign.
My little Chrycler Sebring gets about 30 MPH, wife's Chevy Venture van about 23. We've been lookin' at cars with better gas mileage for sever4al months. Found and '04 Honda Civic on a car lot yesterday. Will check it out further this afternoon.
