OOPS, did the Democrats raid the graveyards again? Empty OOPS, did the Democrats raid the graveyards again?

Post by SamCogar Fri May 30, 2008 5:31 am

Democracy - Most voted shrugged

GOOD news, bad news: West Virginia set a new record by registering nearly 1.2 million potential voters for the 2008 primary election.

But most of them didn't vote, even though the Democratic presidential clash between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton gave Mountain State balloting historic importance not seen since the 1960 showdown between John F. Kennedy and Hubert Humphrey.

The unofficial turnout May 13 was a mere 40 percent, much less than in many past primaries, such as 54 percent in 1992. The secretary of state's staff doubts that the 2008 figure will rise much in the final, official count. Why were 60 percent of West Virginians disinterested in democracy this year? This is depressing.

Intelligent, informed participation in voting is essential for any "government of the people, by the people, for the people." That famed phrase mustn't be changed to "by 40 percent of the people."

It's sad to realize that America has two types of citizens: the minority who are active in the democratic process, and the majority who shrug it off.

http://www.wvgazette.com/Opinion/Editorials/200805290547

If WV’s 2006 Population estimate was 1,818,470.

And they registered nearly 1.2 million potential voters for the 2008 primary election.

Is that not 67% of the total living population of WV?

And iffen ya add in all those that were already registered. ..... WOWEE.

Maybe the Editor was really meaning to say .......

"by having nearly 1.2 million registered potential voters for the 2008 primary election"

Just more spouting off. No evidence offerred whatsoever that even one voter was illegal or improper.

And if there was an illegal voter he was most likely republican.

Or a wannabe. Very Happy

Seems if I recall correctly Sherm (we both know I ALWAYS do) that those whpo PLED guilty and/or were convicted of voter fraud were all democrats.

Maybe that's because the Bush White House had the Attirney General of the United States fire the federal prosecutors who dared go after Republicans.

Maybe in New Mexico. Or some other state. But not West Virginia. Here, it was because they are ALL democrats and have been for the past 80 years. Even if Republicans wanted to purchase votes, they can't outspend you democrats. How many times have they tried and failed?

Sherman, there ain't no way in hell anyone or any group in toto could have LEGALLY executed said .... "by registering nearly 1.2 million potential voters for the 2008 primary election."

Sherman baby, add that 1.2 million they said they registered ..... to the number that was already registered, which is probably close to 700,000 to 900,000, ..... and that total will exceed the TOTAL NUMBER of PEOPLE LIVING in WV.

If that combined total equals the population then they registered babies, kids and everybody. But if the combined total is greater than the population then they had to be registering dead people or non-residents.

Sherm, why does one have to explain every frigging thing in complete detail to you and Ziggy ...... and you still won't understand it?

The only thing you two understand, is after a couple dozen time trying to explain something to you, ... one makes an itty bitty mistake ...... and you pick that out DAMN QUICK and start chastizing and berating one for it.

Whys dat Sherm, .... why can you not understand the truth 6 inches from your nose ......... but you can spot an itty bitty mistake at 2 miles distance?

Just how phoney does one hafta be to be that way?

Well Sam your headline refers to Democrats registering dead voters. I believe that is a reasonable inference.

So where's the beef?

And, although I believe it is just spouting off, if it did happen that dead people were registering, I would point out that the chief elections officer of wv is a Republican.

Not a Democrat.

You are exactly right as usual Terri.

Sam and Aaron always assume the worst and always assume it was the fault of some unnamed democrat.

Personally I think registering new voters is a good thing not bad.

Also I have heard this old song and dance about dead people voting for as long as I can remember.

But never a specific example.

Just snide references like this.

Nevermind the fact that Bush/Cheney carried wv the past two elections.

They suddenly lose their sense of smell when it comes to rotten republican politics.

Sherm, as Arch Moore said, nothing's rotten about that. And, as Arch Moore added, even if it were, it would be uncouth of you to speak of it.

Sam,

If I may be so bold as to inquire.....Would you mind telling us which party, if any, you are affiliated with?

Please just ignore the post if you don't wish to share.

Thanks,

He shouldn't mind sharing that, as he and Aaron are always blaming Ziggy for being among "you Democrats" for every political sin they can invent- even though they know my political contempt for the current crop of "Democrats".

Affiliated with? ......... DUH?

Affiliated - Associated with, or a member of, a political party or political organization

Stephanie, I am not affiliated with any Political Party in the sense that I support one Party in preference to another. Party does not mean crap to me.

I am Registered as a Democrat here in Braxton County because 98%+- of all Candidates vying to be "elected" run on the Democrat ticket.

Oh, and ps Steph, in that you have not joined in the criticism of me for my initial Post, I will assume that you are the only one that realized that said "initial post" was nothing more than a little dab of satire criticizing the Editor for the way she described the "registration" status of WV voters. Yes, Sammy. I understood the post. I "get" you most of the time, though. I have the distinct feeling most of the other members do not. In any event, I thought it was funny. Sometimes I just like to see how things play out. (Must be another girly trait) lmao

I asked because I was fairly confident you were a registered Democrat. I was wondering if that would alter anyone's perspective. We shall see....

Joe Manchin's a registered democrat was well Sherm. But if you move him to Calfiornia or Florida, I doubt democrats would accept him in their party.

You can't be that naive about WV politics, can you?

I'm not 'catching on' to anything Frank. I know that the vast majority of WV democrats are not socialist, which is where the national democratic party is heading. Why do you think we have GWB as President and Republicans have won 7 out of the last 10 elections. And IF democrats win in November, it will be because Republicans turned away from their candidate, not because the country turned TO democrats. By and far, the nation keeps rejecting socialism despite the continued efforts to thrust it down our throats.
