Is John McCain really gaining on Obama?
The latest Newsweek poll, I believe, has McCain within a couple of points of Obama. Is it a fluke or is the race getting more competitive?

I don't think "more competitive", ..... I think Obama's message is getting "repeatively old".
The "trough feeders" are the ones making the most noise for him ....... and the general populace is beginning to figure that out.
Figureing out that all of Obama's promises ..... ain't really going to help them very much at all.

Re: Is John McCain really gaining on Obama?
Well McCain has some really good commercials.
But every time I warm up to his candidacy he seems to come out with some statement or position to appease his rightwing base and turns me off.
So both candidates will be putting their finger in the air a lot would be my guess.
Although both say they dont.
Too bad Nader didnt get nominated in Chicago.

Nader was never getting nominated in Chicago. McKinney has been the presumptive nominee for at least 6 months. I don't know if Nader turned the Green Party down or if they didn't ask but he's not been part of their plan for a while.
He's running as an independent candidate.

Re: Is John McCain really gaining on Obama?
Well I guess it will be McKinney instead of Nader on the wv ballot as an alternative to Obama.
That should be good for Obama.
But it will be uphill for him in wv regardless.
Even though there is a tremendous undercurrent of anti-republican attitude.
I am really surprised at some of the people who say they will suck it up and vote Democrat all the way.
Scratch the rooster.

I don't know who has said they will suck it up and vote Obama. Perhaps you can clue us in.
As for WV, I don't thing Obama has a snowballs chance here and to be honest, I don't think it's a political thing.
A quarter of the people won't vote for him because he's black (sad but true) and a quarter won't vote for him because they think he's Muslim (even though he's no more Muslim then TerryH is but those stating otherwise aren’t concerned with the truth) so when you combine that with the fact that West Virginia, regardless of political affiliation, is a conservative state, McCain's going to win by a sizable margin.
The only reason we'll see candidates in WV is the battle for the borderline states of OH, PA and VA.

Re: Is John McCain really gaining on Obama?
Well Aaron if you asked me a month ago I would have said 20 point margin.
Now I'm not so sure.
But it would have been a lot easier to re-take the Congressional seat with Hillary.

Byrd's not running this year and I just don't see it happening. I don't think this district is that liberal.

The only way Barth is going to win is to take either Berkley or Kanawha County. If SMC retains keeps one or sweeps as she did in 06, Ann ain't going to Washington.

You could be right.
Just saying the people I talk to are pretty solid in their disdain for all things republican right now.
So like Jim says, I'm just sayin ok.
My predictions are not historically worth much.
But I'm just sayin'...

How diversified is your audience Sherman?
And I know all about your predictions. Seems to me you bet a couple of people $10.00 that Edwards would win the Presidency.
Who is it you owe money to again?

Aaron,
That was a great gag (it took me a minute).
I think Craig's got you on the social security issue being income redistribution. At this moment social security is actually running a surplus, by the way.
