Well these hi-minded so called reformers get on their soap box about these "earmark" projects but if they live in WV they are cutting their nose off to spite their face.

For example, if they live along Route 35 and stand to benefit from upgrades to that highway.

Over $200 million in wv projects in the past year.

Over $ 1 billion in the last ten years.

You can find a list of these so-called pork barrel projects on the front page of today's Gazette.

So think about that the next time these politicians get on their hi-horse over "earmarks".

Just a thought as people ponder whether to desert their party and vote for McCain.

Besides opposing all these earmark projects to benefit wvians, he also wants to build 100 nuclear power plants.

Instead of coal.

So when they start that tired old b.s. about gay rights or the Dems will take your guns, they are playing you like a violin.

But it worked for them before so you know they will do it again.

And lots of people will cut off their nose just to spite their face.

Sad but true.

Looks like Manchin is about to trim Big Daddy's hair. That's a real nice look for Bob.

I want to build nuclear power plants too.

Given your new found ardent support of coal does that mean we won't be receiving any more scathing editorials from you against those evil coal barons, mountain top removal, global warming and other issues?

Any time the Gazette needs to fill space they list Byrd's earmarks. So it's a slow newsday. You sing Byrd's praises anytime you get in a sentimental mood. So what? It's all about getting the old codger re-elected by putting his name on every rock and tree south and west of the Potomac River.

You must be one of those tight "free readers" I've been railing about all these years. The real newspaper had a picture of Byrd in his wheelchair and Manchin with a pair of scissors.

Well Steph I have been against strip mining since probably b4 you were born.

I only support "kinder, gentler" coal fired plants.

I would like to see all the older ones replaced with modern cleaner technology.

And being a democrat I believe in research and when even cleaner technology exists I will be for that too.

Well, I don't know. If the Gazette wanted all you free readers to see the pics, they'd have probably posted it. Maybe if you'd lay out 75 cents...

Why should Californians or Alaskians or Hawaii'ians or Maineites pay for West Virginia roads?

Pork projects are one of the biggest reasons we're in the economic mess as a country we are today.

Thanks.

West Virginia's natural resources have been used to enrich all of America for more than 150 years. This has occured at a high cost to West Virginians. Very little useful infrastructure has been realized from the extraction and sale of these natural resources during the 20th century. It is payback time. It's past time that West Virginia benefit handsomely from the plunders of its resources by the rest of America.

Aaron I think we had this debate before you found us on the old forum.

But the real pork is in the military and wv is about the only state around without a major military installation.

Just look at Cal, Alaska, and Hawaii and compare how much federal money is spent there compared to us.

Well they just called and said they got a delivery of Democrat signs in this morning. Including Obama.

I keep stopping in but they are either all gone or a big line all the way down to Mulberry St.

So last time they said they would call soon as they came in.

So I gotta go b4 everybody gets them.

That's right, Sherm.......

You hop right on that Obama bandwagon, before it's too late.

Wouldn't want you to miss it.

So what if he wasn't your first choice, or even your second choice. Hell, I'm not entirely convinced he was your third choice. It's no matter, he's got that (D) after his name and he promises to heavily tax the wealthy and every major industry this nation has and keep the gravy train rolling for those unwilling to make anything of themselves.

As far as the rest of us, the working poor and the middle class, we will shoulder the brunt of it, but that's ok. So long as my lazy 350 lb neighbor who has never worked a day in her life gets an increase in her food stamp allowance and her heating assistance so she can keep her Direct TV to watch while she stuffs herself with chips and snack cakes and frozen pizza with the a/c on full blast from May to November and the heat cranked up November to May. It's all good. Her probation officer doesn't seem to mind that she isn't paying her restitution or preparing for her GED to meet the terms of her sentence. The liberals don't care so why the hell should I?

Maybe, once the Dems are in full control she can get that $250 clothing voucher for her 19 y/o daughter who decided to return to school as a 10th grader rather than stay home and clean up after the half dozen dogs and 3 cats they keep in there. Maybe Barry will give her enough of an increase in her entitlements she can get a couple more pets she won't have vaccinated, spayed or neutered.

It sounds like a plan.

Your Socialist thinking ..... thoughts .... really jumped out on that one Zigger.

Only an avowed Socialist would actually believe that all the natural resources in West Virginia ....... actually belongs to the State.

Then there are the crooks, troughfeeders, idiots, failures-in-life and assorted other characters ...... who believe they should be given an equal share of any and all property that was bought, paid for and owned by others.

lol! getting the share you think you deserve, Zigger.

Horse hockey Frank. RCB has more then paid this state back for our natural resources and then some. I don't want other citizens paying for my roads any more then I want to pay for their bridges to nowhere or any other pet projects they've funded through the years.

This "you fund my project, I'll fund yours" garbage is what has led to the our country being in the shape it is in and RCB is, if not the worst, one of the worst offenders of all time and that goes back quite a long way, to the early 1800's when James Madison vetoed the first requested earmark as unconstitutional. As the father of the constitution, I'd say he had a pretty good idea of what was and wasn't constitutional. The only thing that's changed is the attitude in Washington.

Politicians and economist can get on TV and spout all they want about what we need to do to 'get back on track' but none of it is going to work because it all involves continued spending. The ONLY thing that will get us back on track is less spending, a smaller government with less intervention and a lower deficit coupled with a sound monetary policy.
