If Democrats win big, how will it affect the stock mkt.?
Stock Market Predictions...
Well I thought it would be fun do do a little election day quiz.
Since all the pundits are predicting a clear Democrat victory today, I wonder how the posters think that will affect the stock market.
In other words, will confidence in the economy increase or decrease with a Democrat victory?

Re: Stock Market Predictions...
Considering we've seen 800 point plus gains and 700 point losses and that overall the market is down ~ a third, do you think tomorrows trading will have any long term meaning or effect?

Well you always have to change the proposals and then disagree with them.
No one said anything about tomorrow's trading you just came up with that on your own.

So what is the timeframe on your quiz Sherm. 1 day? A week? A month? Two years? 4 Years?
You can answer AFTER you pour your cheerio's out, which someone obviously peed in.

Stocks fall as investors ponder Obama presidency
By SARA LEPRO, AP Business Writer Sara Lepro, Ap Business Writer 11 mins ago
NEW YORK – A case of post-election nerves sent stocks plunging Wednesday as investors, again anxious about a recession, began questioning what impact a Barack Obama presidency will have on business and the overall economy. The Dow Jones industrials dropped more than 400 points and the major indexes all fell more than 4 percent.

Do you guys really hate Democrats more than you love your country?
"Breathes there the man with soul so dead
Who ne'er to self has said
This is my own, my native land...."
come on guys there is plenty of room for you on the bandwagon...

Sherman, I think you'll admit that over the past few months you and I have gotten along better and that I haven't been as abrasive as I was at times in the past. I've tried not to be such an ass and to be more civil because I do enjoy chatting with you.
But I've got to tel you, from your post above, my first thought is to be offended. If you're implying that I don't love my country because I'm not willing to jump lock, stock and barrel into bed with democrats and the bulk of their socialist programs then that might could rub me the wrong way.
I'm quite sure you didn't mean to imply that, did you Sherman?

No.
But you have never said I hoped for more American troops to be killed because it would be good for Dems.
My intent was to remind we are all in this togethor.

Good. I'm glad there is no misunderstaning because unlike most, I'm not a nationalist, I am a true patriot and if there's one thing that would piss me off and throw all civility out the window, it would be to imply otherwise.
And I'm not sure if you're making a statement there or asking a question. Which is it?

Re: Stock Market Predictions...
Being in this together does not mean that one gives up their personal beliefs and convictions and rolls over for a new President.
Take card check for instance. Barrack Obama supports it. He promised the union it would pass and he would sign it into law. Now while Republican Senators should work with democrats whenever possible and do what is right for America, they should fight this legislation tooth and nail, no matter how bitter or how partisan they have to become as their convictions dictate they should.
Agreed!

Well the so-called pundits seem to think it will pass.
Why would you oppose something that will raise the standard of living for so many people?
"It is a question of how are we going to restore middle-class families' ability to own homes, have health care, and imagine retiring with dignity," said Andrew L. Stern, president of the Service Employees International Union, an AFL-CIO rival

Re: Stock Market Predictions...
Somehow I don't think it will pass. Without cloture, it will never be passed in the Senate, thus it will never get to the President, thus it will never become a law.
And I'm opposed to it because I believe in the right to a secret ballot. Why are you against employees having the right to a secret ballot to decide if they want union representation?

Re: Stock Market Predictions...
Well Aaron I have been trying to find predictions if they can pick up a few republican votes but no success yet.
likewise I figure we will lose 3 or 4 wannabes who switch from the Dem position to the dark side.
But I figure Obama's insiders will include some wheeler dealers who can count and get things done.
It will be interesting.

Re: Stock Market Predictions...
You didn't answer the question Sherman. What have you got against the working man deciding by a private ballot whether or not he wants union representation?
And why do you think unions should have the right to strong arm, coerce and intimidate employees.

Re: Stock Market Predictions...
Well Aaron I have seen these so-called elections and the tactics employers use to intimidate and brainwash their employees.
I think I even remember you said once you were going to some kind of meeting to learn how to stifle union organizing.
Or did I dream that?

Re: Stock Market Predictions...
I’ve never 'stifled' any one for any reason. In the negotiations that I’ve been involved in, we’ve been honest, presented our case and let the employees decide for themselves if they wanted union representation or not.
And that decision has always been made with a private vote. If the company is substandard and the employees feel a union is in their best interest, they are free to choose PRIVATELY, without anyone else’s knowledge of how they actually voted and without being coerced, intimidated or strong armed into doing something they didn't want to do, by EITHER side.
Apparently you have no problem with unions strong arming, coercing and intimidating employees into signing cards and denying them that right to a PRIVATE vote.
So why it that Sherman?

For some hard line partisans, ....... old habits never die.
That is the way Democrats use to keep control of who got elected in WV.

Re: Stock Market Predictions...
Barack Obama's election to the White House was preceded by a big rally, and then followed by a two-day loss of about 10 percent in the major indexes as economic concerns returned to the market. Thursday was Wall Street's second straight day of massive losses — that time set off by Cisco Systems Inc.'s warning about waning demand and retailers posting dismal sales figures for October.
Incidentally, this is the LARGEST 2 day loss since 1987 but I saw no headline noting that and I had to look to find an article that made mention of it at all. The media bias continues.
