I know we agree on a lot of things. For example, we both think you're spectacular and we both think I'm fabulous.

I'd like to ask you a question to clarify something for me.

You think the Jews are "God's chosen people" because of OT scripture. Is that accurate?

Deuteronomy 7:6 says, "For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession."

OK, so if that is what they were chosen to do they needed to accept Christ as the messiah. There is a new covenant. The whole "chosen people" thing is done. Your god chose them to bring his only son into the world to pay for their sins and they reject him. What makes you think he would continue to favor and protect them now? Better yet, why should ANYONE believe that god wants the USA, or any other nation or people to favor and protect them now.

BONFIRE OF THE INSANITIES
Wednesday, September 08, 2010 12:00:00 AM

In response to Gen David Petraeus' denunciation of Florida pastor Terry Jones' right to engage in a symbolic protest of the 9/11 attacks by burning copies of the Quran this Sept. 11, President Obama said: "Let me be clear: As a citizen, and as president, I believe that members of the Dove World Outreach Center have the same right to freedom of speech and religion as anyone else in this country."

Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida lauded Obama's remarks, saying America is "a place where you're supposed to be able to practice your religion without the government telling you you can't."

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg called Obama's words a "clarion defense of the freedom of religion" -- and also claimed that he had recently run into a filthy jihadist who actually supported the Quran-burning!

Keith Olbermann read the poem "First they came ..." on air in defense of the Quran-burners, nearly bringing himself to tears at his own profundity.

No wait, my mistake. This is what liberals said about the ground zero mosque only five minutes ago when they were posing as First Amendment absolutists. Suddenly, they've developed amnesia when it comes to the free-speech right to burn a Quran.

Weirdly, conservatives who opposed building the mosque at ground zero are also against the Quran burning. (Except in my case. It turns out I'm for it, but mostly because burning Qurans will contribute to global warming.)

Liberals couldn't care less about the First Amendment. To the contrary, censoring speech and religion is the left's specialty! (Any religion other than Islam.)

They promote speech codes, hate crimes, free speech zones (known as "America" off college campuses), and go around the country yanking every reference to God from the public square via endless lawsuits by the ACLU.

Whenever you see a liberal choking up over our precious constitutional rights, you can be sure we're talking about the rights of Muslims at ground zero, "God Hates Fags" funeral protesters, strippers, The New York Times publishing classified documents, pornographers, child molesters, murderers, traitors, saboteurs, terrorists, flag-burners (but not Quran-burners!) or women living on National Endowment of the Arts grants by stuffing yams into their orifices on stage.

I think keli dodged this one and I will not. The language of the covenants that God made with Abraham have the word "forever" attached to them, as opposed to "until the Messiah comes."

I believe God yet blesses the Israelis, but very often in spite of themselves.

Here's two more of "my cents."

this Dove World Outreach would not be known by anyone had the media not made their actions an issue, and known by far fewer than today had the government not made comments regarding the matter.

I think Obama and friends decided to engage, and I think that decision will prove foolish. They will either come across as anti-free speech or unable to stop their opponents.

I agree with Coulter that burning the Quran needlessly offends those who wish us no harm; as such, I will not be participating. I think Obama has once again, however, proven his inadequacies as a national leader. Truly the skill set in winning an election is very different than the skill set in governing a country.

It's very convenient. Americans are worked into a frenzy over some jackass with a pulpit and a gun. This loon and his followers have been the lead story on national news broadcasts for days. Less attention is paid to the recession, US troops engaged in Iran, and other serious issues our government should be focusing on and the media should be covering.

I think that's part of it, Stephanie.

My fear with the Quran burning is that the government appears to favor 1st amendment rights only when it is "safe" to do so. That troubles me tremendously.

I don't dispute that in this country someone doesn't have the right to burn the Koran, or publish inflammatory cartoons about Mohammed. I simply don't want them to do it. I think it's disrespectful, irresponsible, and stupid. It's spiteful and hateful. I would feel the same about the Bible, or the Bagavad Gita, or the Book of Mormon.

That doesn't mean I want the government to trample anybody's 1st Amendment rights. I think there very well may be a health and safety issue regarding the burning of ink that would give the fire department the authority to stop it without violating our Constitution. I would be ok with that.

I think that this whole Koran burning brouhaha has distracted us from the much more important goal of naping more radical Muslims.
