Kinda makes me wonder what the spineless excuse for a president and the parasites in congress will do. I know, they'll all find some talking head on TV so they can blow smoke up the public's butt. Then they'll go cower in the halls of the Capitol like the gutless cowards they are and pray it doesn't happen again.

I agree that our government lacks the moral authority to do much of any good, and the Somali pirates, increasingly hostile, are acting out of that knowledge.

In such cases, I think one has to be cruel to be kind. Wipe out any trace of the Somali pirates now and lives will ultimately be saved. Four Americans were murdered, thus making the matter America's business.

I agree, wholeheartedly I agree. However, the present pathetic excuse of a human being we call a president and his harlot for a secratary of state, wrote a strongly worded letter to the UN so I understand. They are calling on the international community to end the piracy. Screw the UN and the international community and the horse they rode in on. The somali scum butchered four innocent Amercians, enough is enough, return the favor and send every one of bastards to hell. No negioation and no mercy. Eventually they'll get the point priacy isn't real healthy and certainly doesn't pay.

Playing the role of Devil's advocate normally (normally Sam’s role but I’ll grab the bull by the horns on this one) with the understanding that unlike nation building in Iran and Afghanistan, America does have a vested interest in patrolling international waters, at what point is the President obligated to protect it's citizens?

Granted this happened in international waters and I think we should sink half the ships in Somali ports as retaliation but suppose the 4 individual had ventured into Somali waters, is the President still obligated to retaliate? Is he required to retaliate when citizens venture into foreign, sovereign nations?

I don't know just how you think the US government should retaliate. Right now pirates have hundreds of innocent people in captivity. They live amidst a population of primarily innocent people. If we just bomb the hell out of them most of the injuries and fatalities that result will be innocent people. Many of them will be victims of these criminals and several hundred of them will be citizens of nations other than the US & Somolia.

The problem has mushroomed out of control because so many have negotiated and paid ransoms in the past. That has to end.

Let the innocent know what is going to happen before it is done. If they don't want to leave that is their choice.

Where do you suggest they go? What about the children, the sick, the elderly?

Two facts come into play here and nothing is going to change these two facts -

First, it must be remembered that one's actions and choices will affect others. Yes, innocent folks are going to be drug into this, simply by the fact of where they live and who they are. They are going be hurt and killed not because of what the did or didn't do, but because of the actions of the crimnals and butchers that happen to call the same nation home or that they happen to be prisoners of these scum.

Secondly, War is not sanitary, innocent people are harmed and killed. There is no way under heaven or on earth one can fight a war an not get innocent blood on their hands.

What has to be remembered is that responsibility sometimes means one makes choices they find distasteful. However, the responsibility one assumes may require one make such a choice. The president and congress of the United States have a sworn responsibility to insure the citizens of this nation are safe and that commerce on the high sea can be conducted. That means they have assumed a responsibility that may require actions they and many others may find abhorant.

I feel for the innocent that stand to become casualities, but that doesn't relieve Obama from the responsibility of acting decisively to end priacy in the Arabian Sea and protecting American interests and lives.

So are we going to declare war on Somalia? Or, worse yet, are we going to enter into yet another undeclared war?

I don't know the present pathetic exuse for a president is going to do, besides write strongly worded letters to the UN. I can only play armchair general and talk about what I would do as president. Would I declare war? Seems to me war has already been declared. I would do all that is necessary to liberate any Americans being held and I would task the Navy with sinking every boat throught to contain pirates.

I agree. They are putting their fellow Somalia citizens in harms way when they come into international waters and attack. It’s clear their fellow citizens are not going to put a stop to this actions so it is what it is. I have no problem with that.

You blow the ships and boats up that they are using for attacks and prevent the next 660 from being taken. At some point, enough has to be enough.
