Faulty gauges helped cast doubts on global warming

Now the Government Accounting Office has put some doubt in the reliability of the temperature gauges that have been selected for use in climate change reporting by the U.S. Historical Climatology Network.

Apparently, you cannot place these gauges just anywhere. They cannot be near sewage plants, the exhaust of air conditioners, near buildings or near metal grates.

The one in Buckhannon, W.Va., violates all four rules.

The GAO found that 42 percent of the gauges do not meet NOAA's standards for sitting temperature gauges.
