For you advocates of gun control
Acording to the FBI data from 2005, only 46% of violence crimes are cleared by the police (a full 54% therefore have no arrests, let alone convictions) and only 62.1% of murders are cleared by the police.
In my old suburb, a single woman was stabbed to death in her apartment in the middle of the day and no arrests were ever made.
My question is this: what do you think a person can do to avoid being stabbed to death, given the woefully low likelihood the perpetrator will even be arrested, let alone convicted, let alone punished?

Well, in your case Michael, move your family back to WV and up some remote holler and hope the bad guys don't venture that far off the concrete/blacktop.
And avoid Charleston and most of Kanawha County at all costs, ...... there are too many Lawyers hanging around there.

Re: For you advocates of gun control
It's a fair question; and as stated previously I live in Oakland which does have its fair share of crime (more than fair, really).
I even know good liberals who have bought guns or intend to. The question is, does it truly deter more than it causes?
In my last neighborhood (a very wealthy one), there was a break-in where the criminals had stolen the homeowners gun. What if they had been home? Would it have been used against them?
What about suicides or domestic violence?

Maybe your wealthy gun-owning former neighbor would have used his gun to defend his property and successfully prevented that criminal from robbing subsequent victims.
People who want to die find a way. They jump off bridges & buildings, OD on pills, slit their wrists and run their cars in their closed garage. I had a friend who killed himself with a shotgun to the chest. Tell me that didn't take some genuine effort.
Batterers kill their victims with knives, scissors, razors, hammers, cars and their bare hands. If you want to kill somebody, there are too many ways for me to list.
