How does a part-time employee accrue sick leave days?
Part-timers added to attendance bonus
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Kanawha County school board has broadened its attendance bonus policy to include part-time workers, many of whom are cooks.
These workers, typically the lowest-paid school system employees, will join teachers, central office staff and service personnel in receiving the incentive payments for good attendance next year.
"I asked this to be put on the agenda because when we set the ground rules, we excluded cooks," board member Bill Raglin said at a meeting Monday.
Cooks account for 39 of the school system's 71 part-time employees, who also include aides, bus drivers and service personnel, said Carol Hamric, director of human resources for Kanawha County Schools.
Part-timers are eligible for many of the same benefits as full-time workers but were not included in the attendance bonus program started last year, Hamric said.
If part-time workers had been included this past school year, it would have cost an additional $16,000, Raglin said.
Board members unanimously voted in favor of the revision.
