Re: Let's withdraw from Chicago!
Chicago has also the nation's strictest handgun ban. It was likely overturned by the Heller case but I know they are still fighting it.
This bloody, bloody year began before the Heller case, and yet the school CEO and the mayor are both trying to say these murders would be prevented by more gun laws. Of course, the laws against MURDER haven't stopped these monsters, but they'll pay attention to laws against GUN OWNERSHIP.
Chicago is run by buffoons and I have to say that electing Obama is not going to be good for the country. I moved 65 miles away from Chicago for a reason.
Chicago has a sales tax rate of 10.25% and still needs money. The property taxes in Cook County are outrageous as well. The Chicago Public Schools are spending 10,500 per year per pupil and they still aren't graduating.
If those stats sound good to you, elect a native son enmeshed in that system (and utterly unwilling to confront it) to the Presidency.

Sheik, I'll put you down as undecided on whether to vote for the O, or not.

Re: Let's withdraw from Chicago!
McCain may have voted with Bush 90% of the time but Obama voted with the Dailey Machine and the Chicago Teachers Union 100% of the time. That's why Chicago schools have a five-and-a-half hour school day.

How long before Chicago resembles Detroit?

Re: Let's withdraw from Chicago!
I don't give it terribly long.
In Detroit, you have a starving, liberal, inner city run by (now official) crooks and a suburban expanse that is an entirely different world. The Detroit leaders never admit that they've been the problem.
I predict that Chicago and Cook County will become an increasingly bad place to live, and as the suburbs and exurbs profit from the exodus of thinking people from the area, the Democratic leaders will cry foul at the inequities between the places.
Right now I am going to vote for McCain, just to be one more voice in Illinois that thinks Obama is wrong for dog catcher, let alone President. He and his ilk (Democrats) have destroyed Chicago and Cook County, presided over deficits AND high taxes, with a side of horrific violence, and never once have they admitted ANY culpability in the situation.
It's always Bush, or the gun lobby, or the suburbs, to blame. It's never poor handling and poor management. Good heavens I'm pissed at these people. Now one of them wants to be President.
Trust me, to make me vote for McCain requires the buffonery of a thousand Bill Clintons.

Re: Let's withdraw from Chicago!
If McCain has any huevos (and the Palin pick suggests to me that he just may), he is going to make Chicago a "shining city on a hill" for all to see as an example of what happens when liberals get elected places.

Wonder why Obamessiah didn't/doesn't call for a troop surge in Chicago. He is so impressed with the one in Iraq NOW.

Re: Let's withdraw from Chicago!
There is a WalMart in the city now. That's one issue on which I'm more liberal--I think WalMart is horrible for our country. Not that I think the gov't should get involved, just that we do well to make other choices as consumers.
Anyways the liberals in Chicago kinda got that one right and lost anyway. They cannot even beat themselves on the city council!
The more I think about it the funnier it is. In Chicago, the far left lost to the kinda left and WalMart came in. In state politics, the far left is fighting with the kinda left regarding the budget and there is still no solution (although we are losing our local state park, must not be enough Democratic voters out here).
Democrats in Illinois cannot even handle themselves. What happens when one of them becomes President and has to handle the Iranians?

Well his VP candidate, Joe "kinkos" Biden, is calling for more police on the streets. Presumably so Barack Obama's friends can sue them.
