What? They believed in dividing the country and turning citizens against one another? That parties were a bad thing? What, Aaron, is your take on it? I have read my Jefferson, Adams, Paine and Madison. I know my take on it.

You're take is wrong if you think they were AGAINST partianship.

In G Washington's farewell address to the nation he warned about political parties becoming perhaps the greatest detriment to the nation...

Do tell...

Anyway, they also owned slaves, many of them. They were great men, not infallible men.

Why the hell not? Don't the Joe six-packs of the country wear the same?

Yes, on the campaign trail, but not when they're trying to get people to vote to send them to Washington.

Why not? If that's good enough for a WV little league mom, then why isn't it good enough for an Alaskan soccer (or hockey) mom?

Because she isn't trying to become the hockey league's secretary. She is campaigning to be the VP of our nation. Because then those elitists in Craig's neighborhood would be saying, "See that? Those Republicans won't even dress appropriately for state dinners."

Well, maybe I am not your average voter. But dressing for a "state dinner" is a turnoff for my vote. Clothes do not make the man- nor the woman- unless what is being "made" is an image, a decoy, a mirage.

This country is too partisan. It will destroy us.

Jefferson and Adams were friends. They became close while dithering over the Declaration. In the 1800 election Jefferson trashed Adams. Said terrible things about him - things he knew not to be true. This election is one of the least negative, least active in my lifetime and, I suspect, the history of the nation.

Of course you're not your average voter!

For goodness sakes you're on the Executive Committee of a third party!

Didn't Adams make a statement to the effect that, if Jefferson was elected that "murder and rapine would be the norm", or something to that effect?

Saying that this election is cleaner than that one isn't really saying much.

Yes, I knew they were friends. I also believe they shared a birthday. I also believe that their relationship doesn't discount my observations of partisanship and the polarization of America and how that is a BAD thing.
