It would almost have to be published by that new "old" resident that started publishing those newspapers in the southern counties. No one else down there would give a crap ....... unless they got a BIG state funded grant to do it.

Or, it is being published in North Carolina ........ for the benefit of all the West Virginians and their families that migrated there via the Hillbilly Highway.

YUP, all those West Virginians that had to "get the hell out of the hills" because the Democrats were creating too many jobs for them here in WV. Laughing Laughing Laughing

LOL Sam.

I wasn't asking for a review. Yesterday a reporter from that magazine interviewed my son and I. She took several pictures of him and I was hoping some of you may just get copies you would be willing to forward to me rather than buying up a dozen of the darn things for all his grandparents, and uncles who all live out of state, with the exception of one. She said it should be in their spring issue.

Thanks, Sasha. My husband and I are pretty excited.

The Clay Center holds something they call "Whizbang! Workshops" my son attends regularly. They run about once a month and Lewis Ferguson, the Director of Education, runs them. We love the Whizbang workshops and we love Lewis.

A reporter from that magazine was there and I just assumed she was another parent who stayed like I always do. (Lewis is enterntaining and very informative) Towards the end of the program she told me who she was and what she was doing and asked if she could interview us both about that workshop and all the Clay Center has to offer.

She took several photos of Loyd with his creations (artwork from discarded materials). He was a bit of a mess because we always dress down for these things with glue and paint being frequent components. He is so funny, she asked him if she could talk to him and he asked her why. She told him she worked for a magazine and that I had said it was ok and he said, "Oh, cool. I've never been in a magazine before." lol

In any event, she couldn't have selected a child or a mother who would have spoken more highly about what the Clay Center has to offer children. We have attended school performances, Whizbang! Workshops, homeschool event days and family fun days. We always enjoy the Clay Center and Lewis has always been one of the top reasons. That man is truly gifted.

Congrats! That's cool - and a great experience for you son to have.

My kids and I enjoy the Clay Center and I've taken several groups of high school students down there as well over the years. It's neat seeing teenagers "playing" with all the gadgets and stuff.

I tried to look up some information about the magazine but couldn't find much. Does anyone know where/how to subscribe?

West Virginia South, a new magazine, will be hitting newsstands next month.
Story by Jessica Quast

A brand new magazine featuring Southern West Virginia will be hitting newsstands in September. Wednesday business leaders gathered in Beckley to preview the upcoming premier issue and vote on one of three covers. The bi-monthly magazine is called West Virginia South. It's an upscale lifestyle magazine about fashion, dining, entertainment and family issues. The magazine will be mailed to charter subscribers late September. An additional family-focused issue will be released after that.

I may be quoted, but she took pictures only of Loyd. She told me in the spring edition. I'm going to email Lewis. He'll know more I'm sure. We had tickets to see Lewis & Clark so we sort of dashed off.

I was just hoping a couple of you were subscribers and would let me know if and when it makes it in there and maybe send me the copy when you're done if his picture makes it in. We have family in 3 other states in addition to WV that will want copies.

We understand. And I will try to bring Sherm around to see that insult is what we allow ourselves to feel- not what someone else heaps upon us.

If I allow Stephanie or Aaron or Sam to insult me, it is more of a reflection on me than on them. Usually I just hold up a mirror and let 'em have it back. Like a duck.

Thanks, Ziggy.

I'm sure Sherm will feel differently after thinking things over a bit. He's a pretty smart guy.

FYI....

Loyd's interview and several pictures made it into the issue of WV South currently available. The Clay Center carries it, and that is where I purchased several copies. It's a very nice magazine. Even the paper isn't flimsy.

We are all thrilled, needless to say. I checked and WV South does have a website now, but it only has a couple of this issues articles online and Loyd's isn't in it.

Lewis Ferguson of the Clay sent me an email a few days ago titled "Loyd is Famous". lol He thinks he is famous and has been walking around like a peacock ever since and now that he has a copy to look at himself he is totally captivated.

That's great Steph, and I know how pleased you must be.

Reminds me of the time, .......... (and I know a lot of people don't like my stories but I'll tell it anyway,) .......... that I was sitting in HS Study Hall a leafing through a National Geographic Magazine a looking at all the pictures.

I flipped a page and there was a "full page" US Army Recuitment Ad showing a big ole tank and some dude standing there smiling, in uniform, holding a big pair of binoculars. And I said to myself something like ....... "No way in hell, can't be".

But when I read the Ad verbiage, ..... sure nuff, .... t'was Msgt. Thomas R. Cogar, my 2nd oldest brother. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy I was,

Sammy you know we're tickled pink. It isn't just the pictures either, the reporter said such wonderful things about him. "His vocabulary is impressive, and his cherubic face has the tell-tale signs of a keen intelligence........"

This reporter should win an award for such a fine piece of journalism!

The "partisan press" strikes again!

Seriously, glad he was spoken highly of--it's high time for the media (even if it's the WV South) to focus on positive situations and not just people dying horribly in some way or another.
