Republicans showing bi-partisan spirit..

Well according to this a huge majority of Americans are willing to give Pres-elect Obama the benefit of the doubt and put America first. Including nearly half of the Republicans.
I am glad to see so many Republicans express a desire for conciliation and co-operation.
That says good things about both Obama's leadership and the Republicans' willingness to put the election behind them and focus on the future, imo.

I'm glad to see it, too. No more Bush-Palin bumper stickers for four years. No "Don't blame me, I voted for McCain" stickers. I'd be real disappointed if it were not so. I cannot say I'm pleased with the outcome. I'm glad we proved we were willing to elect a black American.

Re: Republicans showing bi-partisan spirit..
Well let's not leave out Palin's interviews since the election too.
She has been totally supportive and gracious toward Obama, saying it was the republicans' own fault for bungling things internationally and running up huge deficits. In contrast to the traditional values of the GOP.
So maybe this will be the first step toward rebuilding the Party.
I hope so.
One party rule is not a good thing, imo.

You forgot the name of the story.
So here's my question. The economy has been going in the tank for a good two months now. And during the last debate, both candidates were ask, based on current market conditions, is there any programs that might have to wait.
Obama didn't say anything at that time about tax cuts. Why do you suppose he didn't mention what he had to have known then Sherman?
Public seems willing to wait on tax cuts

Re: Republicans showing bi-partisan spirit..
I agree in part, Sherm. That Americans of both parties want the country to do well is obvious. That there is goodwill towards the rightful winner of the presidency is a good thing.
However, the Republicans should certainly not go along with policies that go against our ideology. If they are bad ideas we should say so. If they are good ideas than we should say so, too.

I've been thinking about this, Sodbuster.
The way the corporate duopoly works is to have seemingly divisive elections, followed by an emphasis on "compromise" and "reaching across the aisle", punctuated with such trite cliches as "reuniting America"- all just so business as usual can continue.
Why would we want to reunite America behind the corporocracy again- behind the corporate oligarchs just for the sake of a "positive attitude"? And if you don't think that Obama is a part the Clinton-Kerry-Gore team of go along to get along corporate puppets, just watch what happens for the next year or so. Come 2012 the President will still be signing into law legislation written by corporate lobbyists, election campaigns will still be financed by corporate pimps, and you and I and millions more will again be scratching our heads and asking ourselves how the hell we let this happen again.
Positive attitude my rear end. I want to see 'em on the floors of Congress a buttin' heads and a kickin' ass. Reaching across the aisle just to get jerked around is foolish- for all "sides".

Re: Republicans showing bi-partisan spirit..
Well maybe I have been bamboozled and things are not as bad as they seem.
But if things get as bad as they seem headed then I still say we need to work togethor or we will all pay the consequences togethor.
Nobody likes to criticize the other side more than I do.
And if you guys are right and this financial meltdown is just a tempest in a teapot, then I will be able to catch up with my criticism pretty quick.

I agree with whoever it was said that the so-called financial "meltdown" is actually a financial shakedown. And Congressional Democrats seem to be in almost full complicity with it.

Re: Republicans showing bi-partisan spirit..
I do not hope for disaster, but I predict three things.
1-My taxes will not be "cut", even though Obama promised that they would be.
2-The gap between rich and poor will continue to expand.
3-The next two years will show that special corporate interests are just as powerful as they have ever been; the difference will be that the particular corporations and wealthy interests will change, but the pattern will not.

Re: Republicans showing bi-partisan spirit..
I think they are a great alternative to the Democrat who believes the party is betraying their principles, just as the Libertarian and Constitution Party serve the same purpose for the Republican.
I think the key to making the major parties more accountable is for third parties to flourish and hold the feet to the fire.
