A serious (sorta') question about Palin.
Where did she get that Upper Mid-west accent? I swear, she sounds like she just stepped out of Fargo (either the town, or the movie, take your pick). I know a couple of folks who grew up near Anchorage, and they have no such accent. And I don't recall hearing folks with such an accent when I've been to Alaska (although, admittedly, I never spent a whole lot of time in Anchorage). What gives?

I don't know. Where did Bawney Fwank get that San Francisco accent?

Re: A serious (sorta') question about Palin.
I don't recall anyone from that far west having such an accent. Besides, she didn't spend all that much time there. In fact, my wife spent two years on the frozen tundra of western Minnesota (just down the road from Lake Wobegon), and she doesn't have such an accent.
Re: A serious (sorta') question about Palin.
People form their accents during their first few years of life and once they have them, it's hard to completely lose them.
Perhaps it would be more beneficial to know where her parents are from, which might help.
I'm sure Alaska is like most other states in that people from smaller, more rural areas tend to have a 'thicker' accent then those from urban areas. If one watches a lot of TV, they might soften the accent some but if an individual is inclosed in a community, it is a lot harder to get rid of an accent.
Anyone who has ever been to Logan or Williamson can attest to that.

bmd, it is called "nurturing".
You must have gotten your Degree the same place TRC did.

Which degree?
To the point of the thread, Palin has never lived in an area with that Upper Mid-west accent. I suppose that one of her parents might have such an accent. I recall seeing a short interview with her father, and he didn't sound that way. Perhaps her mom has such an accent. But, it's remarkable how she sounds so much like folks from Wisconsin, Minnesota, or N. Dakota.
Re: A serious (sorta') question about Palin.
bm,
My husband spent the first 15 years of his life in Nicholas County West Virginia, the next 5 in Holmes County Ohio, the next 7 in Washington County RI, and the last 2+ in WV. He sounds like the folks on the evening news. It's like he has no accent. His parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and childhood friends have heavy WV accents.
I sound like a RI'er, as do my children. Our son who wasn't quite 4 when we left RI hasn't lost it a bit, nor has he picked up on any "hillbillyisms". Kate has added "at" to the end of questions, but I'm working on ridding her of that. As in, "Where is the remote at?" She also has been saying whenever instead of when recently. I'm working to nip that in the bud too.

[sarcasm]No, Aaron, Sam never makes personal attacks. He also never attacks persons who haven't even posted in the thread.[/sarcasm]
I have the same question bmd does. To which of my degrees does Sam refer?

Still have a nose full of that "stuff", .... huh, TRC?
I'm telling you now, ..... you really should ease up on doing that.

There's a "mature" answer for ya'.

Which is it Sam? Am I a stoner or a cokehead?
You must really have a hard-on for me if you bring me into threads that I didn't even post in, just to insult me.
You must hate me with a white hot hatred.
Awesome.

You tell me, because I don't know what the difference is.
I only judge by how far "burned out" one's brain is that imbibes in said.

TRC, I don't even have a hard-on for your wife ...... but you can post a picture and I'll tell you if anything changes.
And I didn't bring you into this thread, ..... I mentioned your name and you jumped in on your own accord.
And I never made mention as to the type of Degree(s) you have, ..... I made mention of the institution from whence you were given said Degree.
TRC, you have a pretty severe case of "substitution dyslexia".
And that is one reason it is so utterly amazing to me that you were even given a Degree. If your replies to "test questions" were anything like your Posts on this Forum, ............ mercy me.
And besides that, I think you are in dire need of an Optoectomy.
That is a simple Outpatient procedure ....... where they sever the connection between you eyes and your rectum ....... which will cure that "Shitty Outlook on Life" that you have.

Re: A serious (sorta') question about Palin.
I have sat back and allowed all kinds of personal attacks between forum members. You folks want to rip each others faces off who am I to interfer?
I would, however, like to make a request. In the interest of preventing this forum from becoming a war zone, could we please refrain from making comments about the family members of forum users. Terry's wife has nothing to do with any of this, nor does your mother or my children. I really think they should be hands off.

I disagree, Sherm.
When you post things that make me think you may be taking some mind altering substance, I will continue to call you on it. However, I never insult your wife. She isn't a party to our discussion. I expect the same courtesy in return, my husband is hands off.

Re: A serious (sorta') question about Palin.
Honestly, I don't know what to think.
Sometimes I wonder if you're taking something......Zoloft made my friend Mary madder than a hatter. I've had relatives go bonkers after taking those pills that are supposed to make you quit smoking. I don't think you take illegal drugs though.

That is doubtful, but I don't know. What do I know about you other than what you tell me here? What do you know about me? How do you know I'm not a 21 y/o college drop out with too much time on his hands and a vivid imagination?

My imagination tells me that you are a 61 year old virgin looking for an experienced dude only a couple years older to teach you the ways of worldly pleasures. Apply to ziggy@mtparty.org .
