Re: Not that it will change anyones mind
Both the North and South Vietnamese governments thought so as they participated in peace talks. The United Nations thought so as well as they recognized it for what it was, WAR.

Those two governments thought the U.S. wasn't committing terrorism in southeast Asia? I don't believe that, and I don't think you do either.
Terrorism:
1. the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes.
2. the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terrorization.
3. a terroristic method of governing or of resisting a government.
You can call it as "universal" as you want to. It is still terrorism- whether done by the barefoot guy in cutoff jeans and t-shirt, or by the guy in a suit and tie.

Re: Not that it will change anyones mind
I'm not a peacenik Ziggy. I realize that, as Solomon said, there is a time for war.

vi (past warred, past participle warred, present participle war·ring, 3rd person present singular wars)
1. make war: to engage in an armed conflict with somebody
2. be in a struggle: to be involved in a serious disagreement with somebody or a struggle to combat or eradicate something
[12th century. Via Old Northern French werre , from Old French guerre , ultimately from a prehistoric Germanic word meaning “strife, confusion.”]
Word Key: Synonyms
See Synonyms at fight
Cultural Note
War and Peace, a novel (1865-1869) by Russian writer Leo Tolstoy.
This monumental work is set in Russia during and after the Napoleonic Wars (1805–1814). Though it focuses on five fictional families, the story incorporates historical accounts and philosophical essays to create an extraordinarily comprehensive portrait of Russian society that touches on almost every aspect of human experience from love and happiness to grief and war.

"Peacenik" or not, calling it "war" or calling it applebutter does not keep it from being terrorism. Hell, Bush called the 9/11 attacks an act of war- which they were. Did that keep it from being terrorism?

Re: Not that it will change anyones mind
You can define it how you like.
Legally, Bush, Nixon and Kissinger were covered, by both US AND international law.
Ayers wasn't. And as such, he should have went to jail.
PERIOD!!!

That does not keep the killing of millions of innocents from being terrorism.
You want to talk legal? Legally, Ayers is not guilty of what you say he is. But if he did all that he was accused of, that does not make him any less of a terrorist- just like Bush and Nixon and Johnson and Kessinger.
If being covered "legally" is good enough for Bush and Nixon and Johnson and Kessinger, then why isn't it good enough for Ayers?

By your reasoning, Tim McVeigh shouldn't have been charged with a crime either.

Why shouldn't he have been? He was charged, tried, found guilty and punished.
I don't care that Ayers and McVeigh were charged with crimes. They deserved to be charged.
But Kessinger- who couldn't even tell his new chauffer the directions to his house- is paraded around like some all-knowing great strategist and princely advisor. But in reality he was just another terrorist conspirator and enabler of other terrorists.

In your opinion of course. The Nobel Peace committee thought differently.

That Nobel Peace committee does some goofy stuff. Hell, it even gave that bumbling, stoic, PT Barnum sensationalist wannabee Al Gore some kind of an award. Yep, they sure know how to choose 'em, don't they?
