Shattering the glass ceiling
What Hillary and Sarah couldn't quite get done, Ann Dunwoody did. It's a great story.
Ann Dunwoody Becomes First Female U.S. Army Four-Star General
Dunwoody Set to Make Military History
In a historic day for the United States Army, General Ann Dunwoody became the first woman general to be nominated to receive a fourth star, the highest rank generally attainable in the Army. President George Bush nominated the 33-year Army veteran June 23rd. The nomination must be approved by the Senate and a hearing has not yet been slated. Ann Dunwoody will take over as commander of the Army Materiel Command, a unit that provides logistics support to overseas bases. Ann Dunwoody has been serving as deputy commanding general of the Army Materiel Command for only a week upon the retirement of Lieutenant General William Mortensen.
According to the US Army official website, there are 57 active duty female generals in the United States military, of whom two, including Dunwoody, are three-star generals. Approximately five percent of the Army's general officers are women, compared with 14 percent of the total military population. As per maximum rules embedded in law, there are only eleven active four-star generals serving in the Army currently, including the army Chief of Staff. Historically, four-star generals rose through the combat ranks and, as women were not and still are not allowed to serve in combat roles, the fourth star has, until now, always been awarded to male officers.
In 1866, Ulysses S. Grant became the first four-star general in the United States (much later, Washington's rank was granted posthumously). Dunwoody will make the 209th four-star general in the history of the United States Army. 195 of those appointments have been combat officers. Four-star generals are required to retire after holding the honor for five years or after 40 years of service, whichever is later. Dunwoody's 40 year mark will come in 2015.

How do you tell a communist? Well, it's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It's someone who understands Marx and Lenin.
So how does the "anti-communist" understand it if he or she hasn't read it?

Re: Shattering the glass ceiling
Perhaps if you weren't so anti military, you would realize the magnitude of her achievement. Did you realize she started out in the WAC when she joined the Army and was given a choice of 2 jobs, cook or parachute rigger? It is truly a fascinating story. You should get over your bigotry and read it.

I am not going to join in the glorification of militarism as long as the military is used primarily to invade, make war against, and occupy small countries whose biggest "crime" is being smaller than, less powerful than and not economic and political allies of the U.S.

I don't give a damn how she started out. As long as she represents an organization as bankrupt of demonstrated useful purpose in my lifetime and as committed to saluting irresponsible leadership and the cockamaime orders eminating therefrom as is the U.S. military, I will have far more respect for her as a good Cook or a proficient Parachute Rigger than as a kissass general.

I thought you weren't going to comment? All you're doing is proving just how anti military you are.

Now your showing your ignorance. Without a strong military we wouldm't be a country.
It's a good thing the military didn't see eye to eye with you back in the day. You would have never made it out of boot camp alive.

My daddy told me about the same thing. What he said was, "They would have either tamed you or killed you". And I suspect you're both right. I'd rather die doing what I think is right than what some possessed and obsessed maniac like Lyndon Johnson thought was right. The day that S.O.B died should be a worldwide holiday- and Kessinger too.

Re: Shattering the glass ceiling
Yet you have no comments on FDR's treasonous acts of provoking and allowing Japan to attack Pearl and the loss of over 2500 servicemen and civilians and our entry into WW2.
Interesting.

Re: Shattering the glass ceiling
That's just politics. And if it happened that way, then it's still just politics to me. And as whatever it was, it happened before I was born, I don't take it personally. FDR wasn't trying to conscript me into any of that. So it's just academic history to me.
But Johnson was trying to conscript me into his conspiracies of military madness and unprovoked terrorism. And I took that personally.

Re: Shattering the glass ceiling
You'll have to explain how having a strong national defense, which was the core reason for the Constitution equals war mongering.

Re: Shattering the glass ceiling
No more than you'll have to explain how having 60,000 young Americans and millions of Asians die in Vietnam for a goddamned lie called the "Gulf of Tonkin incident" was anything other than war mongering and international terrorism.

Re: Shattering the glass ceiling
I've explained it at least twice to you. George Patton was right. It's not my fault you don't get it.
Now try explaining why we shouldn't have a strong national defense as you desire!!!

During my lifetime, having "a strong national defense" has been a political euphemism for using U.S. military mechanisms for committing unprovoked international terrorism on a grand scale.

I think that in the 1960s, 70s, and the 2000s we'd have been better off without a military that functioned at the whim of guys like Johnson and Nixon and Bush. They did not use the military for "national defense". They used it to conduct unprovoked international terrorism based on one goddamned lie after another.

Oh, the same way that anti-you understands all the things that you think you understand.
