Re: Caroline vs Sarah
My condolences to your home-schoolers. It would appear that you don't have a firm grasp on reality
That wasn't fair, BMD.
Steph and I don't always agree, but from what I know, she seems to provide an excellent, well-rounded curriculum for her kids.
At her request, I have lectured for her very inclusive home schooling group, so you know she has good taste in educators...

Re: Caroline vs Sarah
You were terrific, Terry. The kids and parents all loved your presentation. I'm pretty sure that for those who attended, it was their favorite field trip of the year.
Re: Caroline vs Sarah
If she can't separate a TV skit from reality then I seriously fear how she is influencing he kids.
I have seen many, many, examples of the end-product of home-schooling as they enter college. It's a very mixed bag. I have had some students who were home schooled who were excellent students, and I have had some of them who were disasters. The one over-riding problem that home schooled kid have is their lack of experience with a diversity of viewpoints. The basic problem, as I see it, is that these kids are overly influenced by a single source, their parents. Even the very best of previously home schooled students I have had in my classes have a difficult time, at least at first, recognizing that there can be differing points of view; and that their own conclusions may not be any more valid, or even as valid, as anyone else's point of view. Even when they are correct in their assessment of the situation, they usually have little idea of how to support their conclusions.
I have no idea whether Stephanie's kids will do well in college or not, But if their mom/teacher cannot differentiate between the fantasy of TV and the reality of real life, I strongly suspect that those kids will be in for a very rude awakening once they eventually leave the nest.

If only we could all meet the standards of the anonymous uba-liberal BMD, the alleged professor who's so afraid of his own shadow he won’t reveal his own first name.

In her defense, I am certain she could answer a simple and direct question: With whom, specifically, is our diplomatic standing "ruined"?

Re: Caroline vs Sarah
Jimmy,
Was your question directed to me? Is it now?
I don't care what bm does for a living, nor do I care what he thinks of my homeschooling Loyd. He reads, he adds, subtracts & can multiply. The kid is teaching himself fractions. He has more general knowledge than most kids twice his age and many adults.
He is strong willed having his own views about just about everything from art to politics to religion. Interestingly, the boy lives in a household full of agnostics yet believes in god. (Don't get too excited, Reverend, if you ask him he'll tell you he doesn't believe in Jesus but he does believe in Santa Claus)
I'm going to have to teach him to type soon. He read bm's comments and said, "Is that guy saying he feels sorry for me?" When I told him in a manner of speaking he asked me, "Why? I like having you for a teacher. You & Daddy have taught me everything I know."
I thought that was adorable. Of course, I am partial....
OK, now I have to get all anecdotal again and tell you all about a little something that happened in in the "big comfy chair" in our home back in RI.
Kate had this friend named Amanda who was in the 8th grade at the local middle school. Loyd was 3 and flirted with all of Katie's friends who just fussed over him endlessly. He asked Amanda to read him Hop on Pop by my second favorite Dr. All was going along quite nicely until Amanda came to the page that reads, "Our father can read big words too like Constantinople and Timbuktu." Amanda couldn't read the words Constantinople or Timbuktu. Although he couldn't read them either he had that book memorized and he had to tell her.
He has never forgotten that. A couple of months ago he picked up Hop on Pop for the first time in many months, perhaps even a year. He asked if he could read it to me so he read the book and after reading that page he said, "Mommy, this used to be one of my favorite books. Do you remember the time Katie's friend read this to me but couldn't read this page? She was a teenager then but I'm only 6."
The public school system had that girl for almost 9 years by that time and she was barely literate. I'll take my chances that somehow we'll manage to expose him to a variety of experiences and people, including opinions that differ from my own. A little sheltered can't possibly be as bad as poorly educated.

Re: Caroline vs Sarah
No. It is odd that posters bm considers substandard are the most courteous and solicitous.
I had asked sodtaster the same question based upon one of his anti-boosh screeds. Earlier in this thread bm made the statement that boosh had "ruined" diplomatic relations. I don't recall his having threatened to renogotiate NAFTA or fail to sign a trade agreement with Colombia and am anxious to see where he "ruined" diplomatic relations.
I'll be anxious to see bush consigned to history but honestly do not know where he "ruined" diplomatic relations.

Re: Caroline vs Sarah
Jimmy,
He does that because he is a bully.
He may feel bad for my children, but my sympathies go to his students.
I also get the distinct impression what I posted may indeed have been an SNL skit. Sounds like something they would do and Palin has the class an grace to take part. I didn't see it, just read about it online. It did sound like the kind of thing that worm Baldwin would do.
Perhaps I had a Palin moment of my own.
How was your Christmas? I returned home yesterday but I think I'm going to O'fingHiO tomorrow or the next day. Until we do the thing with my MIL Christmas kind of lingers so I'd like to get it over with.

Re: Caroline vs Sarah
I saw it. It was exactly as you described it. If I were she I would not have done it.
I had two weeks to take off. It made coming back more difficult.

Re: Caroline vs Sarah
I just watched the video as well and I thought Sarah did a wonderful job. She was smart, classy and funny, not to mention sexy as hell. I'm not so sure Baldwin was comfortable or not (I can't tell but then I don't think he's a good actor anyway) but it was clearly a skit in which Sarah Palin was aware of what was going on.
BMD can think she'll be a pushover in future elections. All that does is show his ignorance but then that's nothing new here.

I LOLed. Palin was totally in on the joke.
"Did you know that I have hosted SNL... how many times, Lorne...?"
"Twenty-seven, Alec."
"...Twenty-seven times!"

Re: Caroline vs Sarah
No.....no, Aaron.
Patterson should make them mud wrestle for it. "Live From Madison Square Garden!" Do it round robin style and sell tickets to the live event with subscription Pay Per View broadcasting worldwide. They could use the proceeds to pay the legal expenses of Blago & Jefferson and other Dems facing legal difficulties. They could get that announcer from the WWE, it would be awesome.
