Solar Powered ...... and in the dark.
The value of a quality education is really, really important.
And I betcha that all the teachers at Lawrence Technological University have Degrees from accredited Colleges or Universities.
It's a true shame that parents are no longer capable of teaching their children even a little bit of "common sense".

Solar-Powered Show House Near Detroit Still Dark
It's the house of the future, brought low by the problems of the past.
Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Mich., and DTE, the Detroit-area power company, spent $900,000 to build a solar-powered demonstration house that wouldn't need electric or gas hookups.
But seven months after the Troy, Mich., facility was unveiled, the Detroit News reports, it remains closed to the public and will be for the foreseeable future.
Despite the modern energy efficiencies built into the equally modern-looking edifice, someone forgot to keep the water pipes heated over the winter. They froze and burst, causing thousands of dollars in damage to the hardwood floors.
"It's not safe right now, and there's no estimated opening time because it depends on when we can get funding," the city of Troy's Parks and Recreation Department told the newspaper.

Re: Solar Powered ...... and in the dark.
The house is kind of a visual aid to the hypothesis that liberalism destroyed Detroit.
As Detroit deteriorated, the solution was always more liberalism, which drew people out of the city, but the city never learned.
Now outside of Detroit in Troy, a house dedicated to liberalism has given us a vision of what a liberally-powered world would look like. It would be dark, useless, and full of academics making excuses.
What surprises me is that no one has yet blamed Bush or global warming, but I'm sure somehow "budget" considerations from the Bush years can creep into the story.

Thanks, Mike, I enjoyed that as much as I did my 1st cup of coffee and cigarette this morning.
That was so good that I just may quote you on another web site.
Cheers

Re: Solar Powered ...... and in the dark.
You all realize that the word "liberal" meant something different.
The US was one of the world's first great liberal democracies.
It was a conservative idea than a man was born to his state. Good thing those liberals came along or you all might still be stuck as peasants.

Re: Solar Powered ...... and in the dark.
That just goes to show how the meaning of a word can change RC. Take 'welfare' for instance. Our founding fathers put it in the constitution twice and meant for all Americans to have a good overall general 'welfare', which in the late 1700's, meant peace and prosperity.
Bit then FDR came along with his New Deal and blackmailed the court into changing the meaning and we're now a country that's facing 65 Trillion dollars in unfunded liabilities, we're going broke trying to fund our general 'welfare' and if you've ever been to an inner city like Detroit, you'll see they are anything but 'prosperous'.
And like it or not, the blame can be pointed no where but to 'liberal' entitlement policies.

Re: Solar Powered ...... and in the dark.
Hey thanks guys!
I don't think eco-weenies realize that if clean technology is ever viable, everyone will want it. Heck, T-Boone Pickens is wanting wind power.
As to TerryRC's point of liberals and conservatives, Edmund Burke's thoughts are very pertinent here. What you have in the left today is idealism over prudence, which is the kind of thing that causes French Revolutions and Reigns of Terror.
We all agree that earth friendly power is a good thing. But it may not be prudent (and as far as I can tell, it isn't right now) to scrap what we've been doing. So far our most prominent "solution," Ethanol, has been a cluster-screw.
