To the Editor:

It is bigotry and discrimination at its worst to protect one faith tradition and allow others to be mocked and ridiculed. South Park has a long history of mocking Christianity and its values which Comedy Central has repeatedly aired. The network plans a cartoon sit-com called "JC" for the fall. Jesus Christ leaves his father's house, his father has become a video game addict and has no time for Jesus. So, Jesus strikes out on his own to live in New York City and has many comedic problems adjusting to big city life.

Sadly, this double standard by Comedy Central toward Christianity reflects the prevailing attitude in pop culture toward the Christian faith and their values. By bowing to the pressure of radical Islamic extremists, Comedy Central shows its utter contempt for free speech, their cowardice and their distain for religious tolerance and equality.

It is bigotry and discrimination at its worst to protect one faith tradition, Islam, and to allow Christianity to be mocked and ridiculed. If this does not violate the establishment clause, then what does? By ridiculing Christianity but censoring any similar treatment of Islam, then this essentially serves to establish Islam and Sharia Law.

Let's be clear. By caving into pressure from extremists, Comedy Central has shown they are cowards, have no respect for free speech or protecting artistic freedom in the shows they air.

This network is not progressive, edgy or forward thinking. Rather, they are religious bigots who sacrifice free speech when facing a bully. Comedy Central shame on you.

Why did Comedy Central edit out "Mohammad" from the South Park? If you had editorial control over Comedy Central, would you have done the same?

"Christianity" has been mocking skeptics, heretics, non-conforming Christian factions, and other non-believers for centuries and centuries. So what's the beef?
