We all know Sam is an ass but he's a very smart ass, likely the most intelligent poster on these forums, yet your refuse to respect him OR is knowledge. So why doesn't your own statement apply to yourself? It seems to me you're talking out both sides of your ass.

Just because some assholes know something worth learning doesn't mean they all do. Also, I almost choked to death when you described him as "likely the most intelligent poster on these forums". Man, does he have you guys buffaloed. Apparently insulting and obnoxious equates to intelligence for you all.

I gave Sam his chance but I have learned little from him except how to cherry pick data to back up assertions that are wrong. Now he gets the same respect he gives to me.

Like his assertion that deforestation has NOTHING to do with flooding or that photosynthesis can actually make mass out of nothing.

This from someone that supposedly has some education in science.

Sam is very intelligent. So are you and so in Aaron. None of you are the sharpest tool in this particular little shed, though. That award goes, without a doubt in my mind, to the gentleman from Ohio County.

Ah, I had to go stick my nose in it. There you have it Smile

Agreed.

OC was the only person that knew what benthamism was.

First, I never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the shed. I know what my strengths are, but more importantly, I know what my weaknesses are which ironically, is one of my strengths.

And while not trying to knock OC as I believe him to be a very intelligent man, knowing the meaning of a specific work, in this case benthamism-the utilitarian philosophy of Jeremy Bentham, which argues that the highest good is the happiness of the greatest number-does not equate to intelligence other then the ability to memorize facts or more often then not, means that one has actually read or studied a specific topic.

As I've never heard of Jeremy Bentham, why would I know what benthamism is? I wasn't part of the discussion on that word but were I, and had I wanted to know what it meant, I would have looked it up as I did a few minutes ago.

As to Sam, I'm not saying he has the most knowledge on every topic or that he's right all the time because he's not (Afghanistan) but of the back and forths between he and Terry and when required, I've read up on much of the material and for the most part, I've yet to see you prove him wrong Terry. You state your opinion but most of the time when your and his opinion vary, his is more often then yours supported by the facts. And for the most part, he own's you Terry.

Sorry but that's simply how it is.

Well, you are wrong. He cherry picks and uses ONLY the bits that support his argument. If you were to actually go back and look, he rarely uses "facts", certainly not any more than I.

That is OK. This is what you believe and you won't let the truth get in the way of that. I can't see you being bothered enough to actually go back through the archives.

It speaks to a well-rounded education. Curiosity about a variety of subjects is one of the main indicators of intelligence.

My father could speak to anything you wanted to discuss, from politics to religion to world events, both past and present. He was withdrawn from school after his 6th grade year. Education is obtained in many ways.

As for going back to the archives, if you want to prove a point, you go back to the archives. I'm not doing your work for you.
