Rhode Islander Democratic candidate to President Obama... Empty Rhode Islander Democratic candidate to President Obama...

SHOVE IT

WASHINGTON - President Obama may have to eat some humble pie and do some fence-mending Monday with the Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Rhode Island he previously shunned.

Obama refused to endorse the Dem as a favor to the independent candidate in the race.

The Democrat, Frank Caprio, says Obama can "shove it."

Obama stiffed his party's nominee as payback to independent candidate Lincoln Chafee, a former GOP senator who endorsed Obama over Hillary Clinton and John McCain in 2008.

That doesn't mean much to Caprio, who went off on the President Monday morning on a Providence radio station.

Obama will tour a factory in Woonsocket Monday and is the headliner later at two Providence fund-raisers for congressional candidates.

Caprio indicated he may skip the events.

Caprio told WPRO Obama can "take his endorsement and shove it," calling the decision not to endorse a Democrat "Washington insider politics at its worst."

The White House has yet to comment on the latest sign that Obama is the leader of a deeply-divided party.

I find the entire thing hilarious. I do not know Frank Caprio, but I have met Lincoln Chaffee numerous times and am very familiar with him. He did not belong in the GOP, nor does he belong with the Democrats. For all of our disagreements, and I assure you there are many, I must report that Senator Chaffee is too good for either party. He's a very kind, decent man and I hope he wins this election. His dad was a wonderful man too.

What I don't get is why this isn't being made a big deal of by the media. They can try and hide the divide in the Democratic Party but that doesn't change that it exist.

The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. That's the whole name of the state. I swear. The name is bigger than the state.

I think they may be voting on changing the name to just Rhode Island on this ballot. If so, I hope it fails miserably.

Steph,

Very cool. Happy to hear of a politician who can be spoken of in that fashion. I'd never vote for him (and wouldn't have voted for his dad, even if I could) but I don't doubt for a second he is the man of caliber that you suggest.

Our Democratic congresswoman spoke to my class of 11 students this afternoon, and I was tremendously impressed with her. Just like Mr Chafee, she will not be getting my vote, but I have to say I found her thoroughly enjoyable, polite, passionate, and well spoken.
