Got tuition == then its probably not enough?
The problems are familiar - rising tuition and stagnant state education funding - but the auditor's report puts them all in one place, concluding an affordable college education is "a state concern and a state responsibility."
But right now, "A public college education is not affordable for all state residents when almost 80 percent of low-income students in West Virginia do not attend college"

The average cost of tuition at local community colleges is less then $3000 per year and anyone earning under $40K per year is eligible for a Pell Grant, which pays $5500 per year. Besides other grants such as the WV Higher Education Grant, students can borrow from low interest guranteed loans. Cost is not the reason WV'ians are not going to college.

To get a 4 year degree it is just so much more expensive. In addition to tuition there is room, board, books, lab fees, activity fees, etc.
My daughter has a tuition waiver, a small scholarship, Pell & WVHEA grants and it still has a shortfall EVERY semester.

I'm curious, would you still have that shortfall were Kate at WVU, Marshall or State, all of which have annual tuitions below $5,500K?

I don't know. I don't know what all of the other expenses would be. The shortfall isn't in tuition, that's covered. It's all the other stuff. Part of it is because she is a biology major so her books tend to be more costly and she has a lot of lab fees. This semester she had $900 in science lab fees and another $300 for a piano class she is taking to meet a core requirement.

For what it's worth, Southern Exposure in Barboursville has an amature night on Thursdays. You could make an extra $500.00 a week.

I have a kid that will graduate this Spring from WVU with a degree in biology and one in Medical lab sciences. Her shortfall might not be as bad, but she'll still have a shortfall.

Everybody's a comedian.
I try not to complain because I know how fortunate we are to have that tuition waiver. I suspect without it she would be at URI.

Why on God's green earth would you want to send her to Richmond International?

University of Rhode Island.....she is eligible for the resident rates at RI schools too because her father lives there.
Re: Got tuition == then its probably not enough?
Rhode Island has a university? What do they teach, (in my best Boston accent) the proper way to park the car and serve the catch of the day for the city folks in Boston, Hartford and out on the Cape?
