I'll tell you right now Ron Paul was the catalyst for the Tea Party movement. It is not his fault, nor that of his supporters, it has been hijacked by neocons and other politicians who are not truly interested in liberty.

I wouldn't necessarily disagree that Ron Paul was the catalyst. Aside from the kooks he attracts he is also a lightning rod for Constitutional adherents. I cannot say I've seen a hijacking in my neighborhood. In Columbiana County, OH supporters of James Traficant have hijacked the tea party. Not so much here...

Holy crap that hijacking that has gone on here. I have distanced myself generally, but still participate in some select events. I plan on attending their rally on Wednesday.

All the more reason to move to Alaska.

Very patriotic of you. Don't try and be part of the group that fights to repair things, just run away.

TerryRC,

The libs still have Illinois. Our income tax rate has gone from 3 to 5%, with the nation's highest sales tax in Chicago of 10.25% and property taxes on a 150K home running between 4 and 5K. They just raised the corporate tax, despite the fact that Illinois had been rated 48th in business friendliness in the first place.

When people and businesses leave, the liberals will cry foul.
Perhaps you will suggest that such people are running away.

Post all of the inane images you like, Aaron.

It doesn't change the fact that there is NOTHING patriotic about calling for secession.

That, among other things, causes me to doubt the love for this country that Palin SAYS she has.

I doubt Mrs. Palin feels cares much one way or another how you feel TC. And since we all know you feel the way you do about Mrs. Palin because of her religious beliefs, I'm curious as to what you know about the Alaska secessionist party?

Obviously a front for the Klan, Aaron. Founded by Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson at Bob Jones University. They meet in an old John Birch lodge.

Hey, if I were living in Alaska, a state that had the means to be self sufficient due to it's own natural resources and had only been a state for a little more then 50 years, with the direction liberals are taking this country, I'd be all for striking it out on my own as well.

Self sufficient by use taxes on companies. Sounds kinda socialist, to me.

Ah yes, Alaska, which is able to reward its citizens with cash payments and utility subsidies. West Virginia, also rich in natural resources, rewards those politically connected but the people at large get the shaft.

Yes, Alaska, you must be more like West Virginia.

Just couldn't let this one go.

You do realize that Alaska is the highest ranking state in terms of federal dollars received to federal taxes paid: Alaska 1st, Ariz. last in pork spending.

Is that your idea of self-sufficiency? Living on corporate taxes and taxed pulled out of the pockets of taxpayers in other states?

I'm really curious as to your response.

Did I say or even imply that? I was questioning Aaron's use of the word "self-sufficient".

Yes, Alaska, you must be more like West Virginia.

Actually, since both states get by on severance taxes and federal dollars, I'd say Alaska is like WV.

We pay state taxes, so WV is actually a little more bootstrappy than AK when it comes to paying our own way.

How much in natural resources is the federal government preventing Alaska from accessing? I'd say that like most of those you Democrats and Liberals target, Alaskans have become oppressed by the federal government and as a result have become accustomed to sucking on the teat of the fed.

I'm pretty confident that the bulk of those who would remain in Alaska, along with others seeking to get away from the same liberal TC oppression, would have no problem removing themselves from the teat of the federal government and getting by with what they have available, just as us conservative West Virginians would if we could ever get rid of you big government liberals.

Wait, Terry........

Do you think the federal government should be able to prevent Alaska from tapping and utilizing her natural resources? If so, should they be compensated? If so, how? If not, why?

Instead of arguing with the clueless liberal why don't you make him prove ----- "that AK is anything but self-sufficient right now".

Alaska is the highest ranking state in terms of federal dollars received to federal taxes paid
Which doesn't mean diddly shit except to liberal "troughfeeders".

With a 2009 population estimate of 698,473, which is a little over 1/3rd of WV's population of 1.8 million, it only takes a couple frigging "bridges to nowhere" to acquire that ranking, ........ but which is not proof that everyone is dependent upon the Feds.

Remember that the next time you eat a fast-food fish sandwich.

It's Alaskan Pollack (Walleye).

Yeah Sam, that's a real laugher. You know that when you call TC on anything, he whines and moans for a little while until he's proven completely wrong and then he gets all pissy and we don't see him for a month or so.

AK gets back almost two dollars in federal funds for every dollar they give. They are the BIGGEST pork state in the union.

AK couldn't provide services (like fuel, food, etc.) to a large percentage of their population without federal funds.

When I point out that this flies in the face of "self-sufficiency", I am "pissy-faced".

You people are something else.

BTW, Sam, your stats are BS. do a quick google. By ALL accounts, AK is #1 in receiving of federal funds.

Makes Byrd look like a piker.
