There are thousands of families homeschooling in WV and there are thousands and thousands more sending their children to private and parochial schools. I'm not alone.

Stephanie, I have no clue how many are or aren't. I hope you are right in your figures, but there are still many many thousands that aren't and won't take the responsibility to educate their child. I guess they expect government to take care of them.

(Cato) I have watched both you and Terry demand kids be taught certain items and demand the government ensure said items are taught. These are things like evolution, Global Warming, History rewritten to cover your view of the world, and socialistic economics to name a few. I don't share you views and niether do many thousands of others. You have no right to push your agenda on anyone by using the force of government.

Cato, you were OK with Pennsylvania schools using the "force of government" to push an "agenda" onto Medelynn Murray's kids. You're not against pushing an agenda as long as it is your agenda that's being pushed.

The only way this will ever change is to remove government from education. That isn't going to be easy, but if we turly want our chidlren to succeed that is what is going to have to be done..

You are right, ..... this bureaucracy will not give up easy, to wit:

WV Early Head Start program for pregnant women, infants, and toddlers
WV Head Start program for children ages 3-5
WV Universal Pre-K for all 4-year-olds in the state
WV Public Schools – K thru 12

And with all the FREE food, goods, healthcare, money and "nanny" services they offer to the "poor parents", ...... those parents won't or can't afford to turn them down and thus their participation becomes the "proof of job existence" that insures the continued livelyhood of the above noted ........ State Nanny Services.

Fear not! Obama will give education nearly as much attention as he has given job creation!

As I said it isn't an easy task and yes, there are those who will fight tooth and nail to continue to feed at the politician's trough. Of course, the politicans, both republican and democrat will also fight tooth and nail since allowing people to feed at the trough is how they stay in office.

I'd say about one more generation of the idiots the education system is turning out that there just may not be a trough to feed at.

I heard Mark Steyn say today that the Greatest Generation averaged about an eighth grade education and yet they fought two world wars and presided over the biggest economic expansion in history. Now, we have an average grade of 15 or thereabouts, teacher to pupil ratios of the lowest proportions, and the client classes are screaming for more money. Why? To raise the average grade level completed to twenty-seven? God help us if that happens. We'll be wearing rubber pants and sitting in a high chair.

The Greatest Generation wasn't comprised of a bunch of bedwetting moochers. It was comprised of men and women who had a decient work ethic, a love of liberty, and understood the cost of freedom. The cell phone, texting, hippie crowd of this present generation has none of those qualities. This upcoming genration has no work ethic, no respect or love of freedom, and they demand everything be given to them. Oh there are exceptions, but they are few.
