State trooper resigns after leaving accident

MARTINSBURG -- A State Police trooper has resigned two days after leaving the scene of a minor accident involving his cruiser.

Trooper Jonathan Moon's cruiser struck an unoccupied vehicle early Tuesday near Hagerstown, Md. Moon resigned Thursday from the Charles Town detachment, said state Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety spokesman Joe Thornton.

Thornton says Moon was traveling to a meeting when the accident occurred.

No one was injured and no charges have been filed. The other vehicle was used by the Washington County, Md., water quality department.

Thornton says State Police didn't know about the accident until contacted by Maryland authorities who found the cruiser's vanity plate at the accident site.

Letta me see now, ........ a "hit n' run" ......... wrecking his cruiser ........ and no other employee of the WVSP ...... noticed his cruiser was all bashed up until Maryland authorities told them to look at it.

YUP, I can believe that.
