LAS VEGAS—A key Republican panel has rejected Nevada's dueling delegations to the Republican National Convention and recommended a compromise group be seated.
The Republican National Committee's contest panel issued the ruling Wednesday.
It's the latest attempt to settle an embarrassing dispute between a group of delegates largely supporting former presidential candidate Ron Paul and another delegation appointed by a committee of the Nevada GOP.
Both groups claimed to be the legitimate Nevada delegation to next week's convention in St. Paul, Minn. The contest committee rejected both groups' claims last week, and upheld its recommendation on appeal Wednesday.
Mike Weber, a representative for the Ron Paul delegation, says the committee ruled that six delegates—including some Paul supporters—had been fairly elected at a state party convention in April in Reno. The committee then appointed 24 other delegates.
The recommendation will be considered at an RNC meeting Thursday.
