New President will need unity, national sacrifice
http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/10/26/america/letter.php
Well whoever is elected will inherit a nation and world fraught with tumult and near financial meltdown.
We will all need to put aside political differences and pull togethor for the sake of our country.
And the whole world for that matter.
Not engage in petty partisan bickering.

Yes, when Obama and the Democratic Congress prove their inability to actually lead the country, Republicans are expected in the name of patriotism to treat them with more courtesy and respect than the Democrats have done for George Bush.

Re: New President will need unity, national sacrifice
And likewise if Sen. McCain wins Mike.
There is a time to put partisanship behind for the sake of the nation.
I dont know if you have noticed, but since this financial crisis hit us Democrats have done just that.
For the most part.
Matter of fact, President Bush has gotten probably more support from Democrats than he has from the rightwing extremists in his own party.
Before you get mad and jump on me for that statement, please stop and consider the record ok.
More Dems than Republicans supported the President's rescue package.
And even here on this forum if someone just read the posts without knowing who posted you would probably think I was one of Pres. Bush's biggest republican backers and some of the real republicans are his biggest political enemies.
So whichever side wins I hope we can all strive to be part of the solution.
Not part of the problem.
For the sake of the country.

Re: New President will need unity, national sacrifice
So we blithely shake hands and get to work? Don't we need to understand what happened? Don't we need to avoid it in the future? And the reason I'm asking is because the bailout did not reform the system. The political housing establishment has not accepted that flexible underwriting rules are responsible for this and they have not made any commitment to beefing up the regulatory agencies that should oversee it.

Re: New President will need unity, national sacrifice
Well I don't know for sure who you refer to as "political housing establishment".
But I have heard several interviews with big name Democrats who are in fact arguing for more regulation.
"So we blithely shake hands and get to work?"
Well I would delete the word "blithely" and maybe substitute something that suggests cooperation and determination and sincerity. (you are better with words than I am).
But I honestly believe these are serious times.
I have tremendous confidence in the spirit of the American people.
If they will just get togethor on the same song sheet.

Sure the Dems have laid off Bush. They finally realize he's not running for re-election.

Re: New President will need unity, national sacrifice
I have no doubt that Obama has purchased this election (4 to 1 on spending in battleground states) and in doing so, will like increase democratic numbers in Congress riding his coattails.
My one prayer is that Republicans retain 41 of the most partisan, bitter, battle ready Senators in the history of the United States and they fight Barrack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid tooth and nail for every bill that comes before them and is willing to compromise on none.
I say that FOR THE SAKE OF AMERICA.

I don't understand the urgency of working together and blindly accepting the flawed status quo under the president you think will be elected but not the one who was elected.

I'm as serious as I've ever been Sherm. Without 41 bitter Senators, Pelosi and Reid will shove programs like universal health care and card check through and Obama will sign them with no regard of how bad they are for America.
I want out government MORE divided then it is right now. Nothing would please me more then to see 41 Republican senators shut the government down over partisan politics.
That, imho, is what is best for America.

Yes, I am opposed to government mandated free health care as the cost will be too astronomical for hard working Americans to bear and the end result will be sub par health care.
And I am most definitely oppose mafia type card check legislation which will do nothing but legalize union intimidation and coercion to increase membership, against the will of the working man.
I don’t know why you would be shocked at my opposition to two communist style government mandated programs.

SHOVE IT, .... Sherman, ....... and you know where.
You have been sucking desperately for a Democrat controlled Government for the past 10 years plus, ....... and if you get it in November ..... THEN SWALLOW IT.
You haven't given a shit about "the sake of the country" or "the State" for as long as I have known about you ....... so I don't guess you ever did. The only thing you care about is PARTY, PARTY, PARTY, ....... Democrat Party.
So cease with your BULLSHIT, ..... the Democrat Party is still the only damn thing in the world you really care about.
And of course the Dems support the President's rescue package, they are the ones primarly at fault for causing the collapse. If they didn't support it, the public would demand they be thrown into jail.
But I can understand why "troughfeeders" like yourself are getting might worried. You know damn well your beloved Democrats are INCAPABLE of solving any socio-economic problems ....... but are experts at exacerbating them.
And they are going to exacerbate, get mighty worse, under a Democrat controlled government.
And you are mighty worried Shermmy, because you remember what happened to the "troughfeeders" in France when their socio-economic status collapsed and the people rebelled against King Democrats.
