When is a hate crime not a hate crime?

Campuses have their own rules and public safety officers. I don't agree with it, but that is the way it is.

I take it you are against the "free speech" zones that Bush favors to quell protests?

Did you know that WVU, bastion of free speech, has a free speech zone just outside the doors of the Mountainlair where protests must be held? Do you think that it would have been okay to hang an Obama or Palin effigy there?

Why would there be arrests for no violations?

Heck zig these guys/gals on the right don't need a specific charge or violation of some law.

Just arrest them first and figure out what charge later.

The homeowner gets to make his / her own rules. Legally, visitors to a college campus don't have that degree of absolute freedom.

Heck, a few years ago in a couple in Charleston was arrested by Charleston P.D. officers, at the state capitol on the 4th of July, for wearing politically incorrect t-shirts. The next day, the city wisely dropped the charges and apologized profusely and publicly for its officers' outrageous conduct in making those arrests.

Well the boys in Ky are charged with burglary for breaking in and stealing the stuff to make the dummy.

And they violated the UK code of conduct.

There were no allegations that the Cal. dummy was stolen, and the homeowners can establish their own code of conduct far as I know.

I am not familiar with Cal law but I doubt there would be an applicable law for doing this on your own property.

But the UK article mentions nothing about any "hate crime".

A state code of conduct. I had a state trooper in Lincoln county that threatened to arrest me for disrespecting an officer of the law.

I told him I was no longer in the Army and laughed at him.
