McCain to take lead for GOP on stimulus pkg.......
Well I guess John McCain will step up to fill the leadership vacuum for the Republicans.
Maybe they can find a moderate Republican in the House as well to help make this a true bi-partisan effort.

McCain doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground. He is not the cure--he is the disease. Palin 2012!

I think the house took the proper approach on this bill.
It's wrong for America and I think anyone with half a brain willing to read what it pays for can see that.

" Most Republican governors have broken with their GOP colleagues in Congress and are pushing for passage of President Barack Obama's economic aid plan that would send billions to states for education, public works and health care."
"This past week the bipartisan National Governors Association called on Congress to quickly pass the plan."
"The 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, planned to meet in Washington this weekend with Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and other senators to press for her state's share of the package.
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist worked the phones last week with members of his state's congressional delegation, including House Republicans.."

Of course they have Sodbuster. They have to have a way to fund federally mandated entitlement programs such as welfare and medicare.
So why did you jump this from the thread you started for this very subject to this one?
The challenge still stands. Explain to us, in your own words, how this stimulus package with it's democratic wish list of funding, actually creates jobs.
To help you out, I've started another thread with some example answers to the question. Feel free to borrow from any of them.

Why does bi-partisan always seem to mean "exactly what the Democrats want with nothing that they don't?"

One line of thinking could be that since girly men pansy democrats caved to Republicans under Bush like cheap suits that Republicans are somehow obliged to do the same.
Seems to me they are mistaking principals and the ability to do what they were elected to do as obsturctionism.

Well don't you think he has legitimate concerns?
Nothing wrong with that, far as I know.

Yes, I think his concerns are legitimate. He sounds like he's going to lead the opposition to it in the Senate rather than support.

Well as I read it, he wants to improve the proposal.
Not just try to block it for partisan reasons.
That is what Obama has been trying to do all along, come up with a bi-partisan package that everyone can support.
Not just vote as a block against everything like the House Republicans did.
Maybe you saw my post elsewhere that the republican Governors are pushing hard for a stimulus package.
Including Sarah Palin.
The House Republicans apparently have her so fed up that she refused their invitation to their obstructionist party.
Saying she had a schedule conflict.
Turns out she was in town anyway.

Re: McCain to take lead for GOP on stimulus pkg.......
Why it wouldn't be necessary to block it for partisan reasons. Why not just block it because it's stinking up the joint? Why not block it because there are no jobs in there - just pork?
I don't think they voted against it in the House for partisan reasons. You seem to be suggesting that voting against it is sacreligious somehow. Surely you are not suggesting that Obama is Christ incarnate?

That's grandstanding? What do you call making promises you don't intend to keep, promises you can't keep, to the folks back home?
Sorry, telling the nation that Nanny Pelosi, Dingy Harry and The One can solve everyone's problems by taxing us to oblivion and redistributing wealth, and distributing nonexistant wealth, now that is grandstanding.

So, even though there is no stimulus in the plan, no jobs, nothing to end the recession, we owe it to Obama to support the plan?

I think if you are in Congress you should try to co-operate and work toward a common goal.
Especially if you are in the minority.

Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich. That's why the others work so hard at marginalizing them.
Re: McCain to take lead for GOP on stimulus pkg.......
West Viriginia had requested some TARP money for highway construction and repair. We got well under half what we requested for highways and twice as much for the construction of new schools, an area where, happily, we have no immediate need. Like all federal expenditures TARP ignores local needs and bypasses local control. We know better than you we're the federal government. You should just shut up and go along especially if you are in the minority.

Ah those new schools mean new teachers, administrators, and support staff. Think of the job creation! You build a road all you have is a means of transportation. You build a school and you have a means of indoctrinating generations of minds with the added bonus of adding to the ranks of the NEA & AFT. It's a dream come true.
Re: McCain to take lead for GOP on stimulus pkg.......
All federal money comes with strings attached. What's especially sad about it is that it is our own money and we have no say over how it is spent and no indication that it will do anything to stave off financial ruin and a depression the likes of which we've never seen.
Kevin Hassett has estimated that the average taxpayer will owe the equivalent of $14,000 as a result of TARP.
