Yeah..but he didn't exhale. It's a hiccup, a bump in the road--he should get another chance to not have smoked it in the first place.

Sure he's a dumbass, but as I doubt very much that the marijuana could have HELPED him perform in the Olympics, I don't see this as news.

He is going to issue a lame and likely fake apology for something that was not earth shatteringly bad in the first place. I wish he hadn't done it, just like I wish he hadn't ever told a lie or stolen from his mom's purse. The latter isn't news, and neither is this shlomo with a bong.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP)—Olympic superstar Michael Phelps could face criminal charges as part of the fallout from a photo that surfaced showing the swimmer smoking from a marijuana pipe at a University of South Carolina house party.

A spokesman for a sheriff known for his tough stance on drugs said Tuesday the Richland County sheriff’s department was investigating.

“Our narcotics division is reviewing the information that we have, and they’re investigating what charges, if any, will be filed,” said Lt. Chris Cowan, a spokesman for agency.

The photo first shown in British tabloid News of the World on Sunday was snapped during a November party while Phelps was visiting the university, according to the paper.

Phelps, 23, and his team have not disputed the photo’s accuracy. Phelps has issued a public apology, acknowledging “regrettable” behavior and “bad judgment” after the photo appeared.

One of Phelps’ agents, Drew Johnson, said Tuesday authorities had not contacted the swimmer. “So we really can’t speculate,” he said.

Isn't there real crime in Columbia, SC? Perhaps they should go after THAT.

A bunch of stoned buffoons in a frat house are easy targets. Perhaps that way the police and the administration of the city/county can claim to be "doing something" that does not involve a shoot out.

I wonder how many crack and meth distributors are NOT going to be given any attention as they go after this guy for hitting the Mary Jane.

I agree Mike. When I was talking to my 19 year old college student about this last weekend, he was amazed at the reaction this is receiving. He informs me that it's much more common then many let on at colleges and universities.

I didn't ask him how he knew. Some things are better left silent. As long as he's going to class, learning and keeping his scholarship and staying away from addictive drugs, I want him to enjoy these years.

I don't know Jimmy, I'd have to sample the evidence.

Speaking of BBQ, I've been pleasantly suprised at how prevalant it is in Cincinnati and I'm not talking about the chain stores like Famous Dave's but real pit BBQ.

They don't know how to fix a freaking hot dog around here but they sure can do some BBQ.

Makes me wonder what's going on at UC and Xavier???

I've never had one of those Skyline chili hot dogs. It doesn't seem right. I didn't know they did BBQ.

In Charleston, SC they do the vinegar-based stuff. I like that although the GA Pig in Brunswick, GA makes a tomato-based BBQ that ain't too shabby either.

They keep telling me that the hot dog with the spaghetti sauce and cheese piled a foot high is good. I ask them how they know considering the can't even taste the hot dog part of the hot dog. If I wanted a plate of spaghetti piled with cheese, that's what I'd order.

I guess I'll have to wait until baseball season to get a good hot dog.

I was stationed in Columbus, GA for a year back in the 80's and that's where I fell in love with BBQ. Around here, it's a combination of tomato based and vinegar based. My new mission is to see if I can find a mustard based one to compare with the other two.

Oh, you've never sat on a hard bleacher in the scorching heat drinking a warm beer and eating wonderful pig lips and whatever else they add piled with all the fixings. There's nothing quite like it.
