Dear Friend of the Family,

We often talk about being "engaged in a battle" as we advance, defend, and equip West Virginia's families. Today, we see clear evidence of that from the readers of the Charleston Gazette.

On Tuesday, we had the privilege of meeting with a packed room of pastors at Stonewall Resort for our Pastor's Briefing. As a part of the program, we invited several politicians to be a part of a panel entitled, "Pastors and Politics: a Politician's Perspective." You can read more about the event on our blog, engagefamilyminute.com.

This morning, the Charleston Gazette reported on the event, having heard about this private event from, "an unnamed source." After reading about how pastors had peacefully gathered to hear from their elected officials, this is how one reader responded,

"What a sad, disgusting group of people whose only reason in life is to attempt to impose their will and beliefs on people who they have no connection to. I hope they all die in a fire and soon."

We are shocked and angered that the Gazette would allow such a comment to be on their website for even one second, let alone 2 hours! Yet, it confirms what we have tried to make clear to you: there is a nationwide agenda afoot, working to silence the input of pastors, families, and voters on the question of marriage.

Clearly, the Family Policy Council of West Virginia is making headway at the legislature. This summer's hearing before a joint committee on the judiciary has made clear that there is no legitimate reason not to let the people vote on the definition of marriage.

Will our legislators listen to readers like "lige4abe" who wish people like you a death of fire? Or will they protect every West Virginian's right to vote on the definition of marriage?

That depends on our partnership. Will you invest in the Family Policy Council of West Virginia's effort to secure your right to vote on the definition of marriage? Will you forward this email to 5 of your friends so they know what their fellow citizens are saying about them?

Advancing, defending, and equipping WV's families.

- The Family Policy Council of WV.

P.S. Just imagine if the Family Policy Council of WV was not here to defend your values of life, marriage, and religious freedom in the church-house, the statehouse, or the courthouse. Thanks to your faithful, financial partnership, we are advancing, defending, and equipping West Virginia's families before pastors, legislators, and members of the media. Thanks for your continued support!

Of course, no amount of liberal death wishes will get the kind of attention one right-wing jackass gets. It is all part of the great American double standard.

The one thing I can say is that the mask is slowly coming off. I think people have begun noticing when liberals engage in the type of behavior previously assumed only to come from the right.

The real issue, though, I have to say, is not what is taught by the Gazette or in the schools. Our churches need to be the place in which revival starts. I fear far more from an apostate preacher than I fear from some goofy Gazette editorial or letter writer or what have you. The real culture wars were lost in the socalled "maineline" denominations rather than in the schools or the Congress or even the Supreme Court.
