The above maps appear to be roughly the inverse of each other. That is, locations that voted for Al Gore tended to suffer higher cancer rates.

I liked that.

Which proves one can "squeeze" whatever statistics that want to out of the data.

I'd like to see another map with "cigarette sales" plotted on it.

Betcha it wouldn't match as close to the "cancer" map as did "gore voters".

I wonder why both of WV's panhandles are in the top 10%. That and why is Maine, 40th, New Hampshire, 41st and Vermont, 49th, in population ranks and all fairly rural states so red?

HA, all good questions.

One needs to save a copy of that map and everytime some fruitcake starts spouting off about "causes of cancer deaths" due to their perceived fictious cause to justify their claim, use said map to disprove it.

The N. Panhandle and all of the industry towns down the Ohio?

Can't imagine why their cancer rates would be higher. Not quite sure what is going on in the E. Panhandle.

In general, urban areas tend towards "liberalism" and rural areas tend towards "conservatism".

In general, cancer rates tend to be higher in polluted, cramped areas. Things like air pollution and "sick building" syndrome are much more common in urban areas.

That areas with large numbers of democrats are correlated with areas of high cancer prevalence should come as a surprise to nobody.

So maybe it's the pollutants, all those toxins in the air and water of urban areas are warping people's minds. Is that what you're saying, Terry? Smile

Hardcore Democrats are no more warped than their Republican counterparts.
