I don't agree with the church's actions. However, I have a problem with beheading, airplane crashing nervous Nellies being offended by burning a book.

Hundreds of Afghans railed against the United States and called for President Barack Obama's death at a rally in the capital Monday to denounce an American church's plans to burn the Islamic holy book on Sept. 11.
The crowd in Kabul, numbering as many as 500, chanted "Long live Islam" and "Death to America" as they listened to fiery speeches from members of parliament, provincial council deputies, and Islamic clerics who criticized the U.S. and demanded the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country. Some threw rocks when a U.S. military convoy passed, but speakers shouted at them to stop and told police to arrest anyone who disobeyed.
The Gainesville, Florida-based Dove World Outreach Center announced plans to burn copies of the Quran on church grounds to mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, but has been denied a permit to set a bonfire. The church, which made headlines last year after distributing T-shirts that said "Islam is of the Devil," has vowed to proceed with the burning.
"We know this is not just the decision of a church. It is the decision of the president and the entire United States," said Abdul Shakoor, an 18-year-old high school student who said he joined the protest after hearing neighborhood gossip about the Quran burning.
The U.S. Embassy in Kabul issued a statement condemning Dove World Outreach Center's plans, saying Washington was "deeply concerned about deliberate attempts to offend members of religious or ethnic groups."
Protesters who had gathered in front of Kabul's Milad ul-Nabi mosque raised placards and flags emblazoned with slogans calling for the death of Obama, while police looked on. They burned American flags and a cardboard effigy of Dove World Outreach Center's pastor, Terry Jones, before dispersing peacefully.

That's the same way the partisans react when "instigators" working for the DNC gets them all rowled up and p-faced.

KABUL—The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan said the planned burning of Qurans on Sept. 11 by a small Florida church could put the lives of American troops in danger and damage the war effort.
Gen. David Petraeus said the Taliban would exploit the demonstration for propaganda purposes, drumming up anger toward the U.S. and making it harder for allied troops to carry out their mission of protecting Afghan civilians.

This is a fascinating case study. If the gov't steps in to deny this church's right to express themselves in this way, a pandora's box is opened vis a vis freedom of expression.

I agree, Mike. I'd like to see this idiot call off this lunacy, but I don't want the government to deny him, or the loons following him, freedom of expression. I think I may have heard he applied for a permit to stage a "bonfire" and it was denied. I suppose local officials could step and and stop it based upon that, which would be ok if there was a legitimate reason to deny the permit, such as dangerous burning conditions or residential area or whatever.
I'd like to see more value placed on the safety of our troops than on a few moments of notoriety.

I think that the Muslim-in-Chief and the AG Wilder will intervene.

If the government steps in, will they then silence anti-christian university professors? Bill Maher?

You are certifiable. Bibles in courtrooms. The 10 commandments on courtroom walls.
Do you think hotels would allow a koran in every room like they do a bible?
Don't let facts get in the way of your world view, however.

TerryRC,
I've said repeatedly that if a Muslim group would like to put korans in dressers like the Gideons do with Bible, I don't see why they should not be able to. I can just as easily ignore it as I do the Book of Mormon and the phone book.

I doubt most of your brethren would agree. I'd like to see a group try it. I doubt they would stay in the room long. Keli has posted a cartoon of someone using the koran for toilet paper. I think that tells us how this experiment would go.

Are copies of the Quran removed from public libraries and public schools?
I would bet that if those placing the Quran went about it without public fanfare, there would be little if any response.

I've seen the Book of Mormon in hotel rooms, and I have a very similar belief that Mormonism is a false religion as my belief that Islam is one, and I have neither complained nor given it the two ply treatment

As for my brethren, TerryRC, I wonder how many evangelical Christians you speak with on a weekly basis. I don't think you know us as well as you suppose.

You would be wrong. My best friends are "born again" evangelicals. Not as pushy as some, but nevertheless...
