I don't blame Palin for running and taking the money but in doing so she has shown that some things are more important then her obligations and that her word is, in the very least, under a cloud of doubt.

While I could possibly overlook that were she to run for President, the fact that she followed that up by hi-jacking the TEA Party make her an opportunist and that I will not support. I can handle a lot of things and I realize our politicians are people just like me and you with their own faults and shortcomings, this is one I won't bury my head in the sand over.

Fair enough!!

One question I do have is what do you mean by hijacking the TEA Party? I don't follow her closely, but I don't see where she has hijacked anything. I do see her identifying with the TEA Party on a number of issues, but I just don't see her hijacking the party.

I know it proves the tripe you posted previously about Republicans working is just that, tripe. And it also means that give or take a few percentage points, Republicans and independent leaning Republicans DO NOT want Palin as the nominee.

I also know that those little old ladies coming out of the hills will tolerate many a thing but one of them they are not forgiving of is a quitter. And Palin's a quitter, simple enough.

The bible thumpers will vote for Mike Huckabee and the independent ones will vote for Mitt Romney and Palin will not win th nomination. That is if she decides to run.

Sarah Palin

By Feifei Sun Monday, Feb. 14, 2011

Age: 46

Last held public office: Governor of Alaska, 2006-09

No one commands the adoration or loyalty of John Q. Republican quite like Sarah Palin. Master of folksy quips and pitch-perfect populism, the former vice-presidential candidate has fabulous base appeal. Her personal story of carrying to term a Down syndrome child gives her credibility with antiabortion activists. After a gig with Fox News, two books, a TLC reality show and two years of swarming attention from the national press corps, the Palin brand is as potent as it is ubiquitous.

One of the characteristics that makes Palin so popular with the Republican base is her unshakable one-against-the-world mentality. In Palin's eyes, the "lamestream media," jealous rivals and the good-ol'-boy network are all working to undo her. It's a compelling narrative at a Tea Party rally, but it hasn't much helped her standing elsewhere. Her public spats over the last presidential campaign and controversial endorsements of candidates like Christine O'Donnell in the 2010 midterms haven't endeared Palin to the Republican establishment. Many voters saw a deficit of seriousness in her early departure from Alaska's governorship, and camping trips with Kate Gosselin aren't exactly the best medicine. A January poll found that just 17% of independents nationwide have a favorable view of Palin.

Everybody knows Sarah Palin. That's her greatest asset and biggest flaw. Should she run for the GOP nomination, her name recognition and ability to steal headlines would make her a force. But for all Palin's celebrity, there's no indication the party faithful really want her to be President. Most early polls show her trailing Romney and Mike Huckabee in hypothetical primary matchups, and far behind Obama in the general election. Despite all her media coverage, Palin hasn't built networks of donors and allies on par with the most competitive members of the field.

Representative quote: "We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington ... We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America."

Sarah Palin Has Become A Liability For Republican Party

By Louis Hanks on March 24, 2011, 7:49 pm

“She has a very shrewd judgment about politics and policy and very good instincts — but she hasn’t done what Reagan … did, which is really educate himself over a number of years,” Kristol said. “I think she’s unlikely to be the Republican nominee, and to be honest I think she probably shouldn’t be the Republican nominee for president.”

“My point is when a shot is taken at me, it is water off the duck’s back because I know the important things we need to concentrate on,” Palin said. “If somebody says something that is not true … I”m not going to retreat. I will reload and tell them what I think about them and hold them accountable for what they say about other women.”

Biggest Problem

But Palin is not the GOP’s biggest problem, she is just a symptom of the challenge that confronts Republicans. The big obstacle in the party‘s effort to topple the president in 2012 is that the party activists who dominate the presidential selection process are right wing zealots who are always sure of themselves but never right. Palin probably won’t run but the remaining candidates are tripping all over each other trying to fill the vast right wing vacuum that Palin would leave open if she doesn’t run. While the shadow of Sarah Palin hovers over them, the GOP candidates move further and further to the right. Meanwhile Barack Obama will rush in to fill the void at the center of American politics.

Electoral Lens

Even if Palin is not viewing her trip through an electoral lens, she is, I suspect, far more comfortable with an evangelical approach to her trip. She’s a Christian Zionist, to be sure, and like many of her co-religionists, the Jews are adorable pawns in God’s plan. Spiritually speaking, she’d be far more at home with a Christian tour. And if she is trying to appeal to Jewish Republicans, I’m guessing she thinks the trip alone is enough to make them happy, and that she doesn’t need to cozy up to the RJC, just like she thinks she doesn’t have to cozy up to the Family Research Council or the American Conservative Union.

It's the internet Sam. Most of what is written is by people were trained as something else, like a computer programmer who by his education claims to be a scientist.

At any rate, I posted the article for the first paragraph. I said in 2008 when McCain/Palin was sent packing that if Palin wanted to be President she should return to Alaska, find her own Karl Rove, finish out her term and educate herself.

And while I don't claim to be an expert on much, my analysis regarding the former Governor has been proven to be more accurate, time and again then the average computer tech turned scientist.

Had she done what I said instead of listening to those like you who easily accepted her quitting to cash in, she would now be in postion to be the next President of the United States of America.

As such, I wonder which is harder for you, admitting that you are wrong about Mrs. Palin or admitting that I'm right.

The media plain don't like Sarah Palin. With the way the country is going and Obama's rank hypocrisy on matters of war, I see her winning if she goes up against him in 2012. No matter the cacophony of media voices telling you she's unelectable will matter when the folks are paying 5 dollar gas because Bush lied:)

One more thought, if Palin is the major party's nominee, the Republicans will forever be able to hold over the Dems that they were the first to put up a woman for the top office. I think this would go a long way towards putting to bed the stereotype of Republicans as knuckle dragging troglodytes who want to keep women in the kitchen.

If that's the case Mike, then why do you suppose it is that polls (including some pretty respected ones) find that only 1 in 10 would choose her today? Are Republicans so fickle that an increase of $1.00 in gas prices will cause them clamor to Palin when 9 in 10 do not support her today?

Setting aside the fact that stereotypes are generally earned, why can the same not be said for Bachman?

Perhaps I'm wrong on Palin, partially based on my thoughts that she was independentbut appently that's not the case.

Jesse Ventura Predicts Palin Will Win Presidential Race

Jesse Ventura, the former WWF wrestler turned Governor of Minnesota, predicts Sarah Palin will emerge victorious in the Republican presidential nominations, reports Cnn.

Appearing as a guest on Piers Morgan's 'Tonight' show, Ventura discussed conspiracy theories, foreign policy and his possible return to politics. After the show, the 66-year-old gave a separate interview during which he predicted Sarah Palin will be the women to go head-to-head with President Barack Obama in 2012, saying, "They're grooming her for it, she's got a TV show. It seems that elections today are more popularity than they are substantial issues. She's the type of person that certainly will be controlled by the status quo and the power structure. So she'd make a perfect candidate for them, she'll do what she's told". On his interview with Morgan, Ventura was impressed by the British journalist's line of questioning, saying, "He's tough, he's a button pusher. I know now why Cnn hired him, because he can definitely get you stirred up, as he did me".

In recent years, Jesse Ventura has made the foray into acting and starred as a self-help guru in the Johnny Knoxville movie 'The Ringer'. He went on to feature in an episode of 'The X Files' and more recently appeared in the independent comedy 'Woodshop', which was released in September 2010.

Aaron,

I think you are confusing stereotypes for archetypes. the fact is that the condemnation of conservatves as somehow medieval is simply unfair. I see absolutley no evidence from my dealings with a wide variety of people from both sides of the conservative/liberal spectrum to conclude that somehow conservatives have earned any scorn for their treatment of women. John Edwards, in particular, and Bill Clinton, are very good examples of how ill treating females is an unfortunately widespread condition....

I've been to a few Republican meetings Mike so I really don't think I'm confusing anything. Perhaps the Republican Party isn't as old and white as it used to be but it's hardly the bastion of an all encompassing tent. There are many establishment that will withhold support for both Palin and Bachman, of whom I can't help but not you failed to answer the question.

I think Bachman is a stronger candidate than Palin. Considerably brighter, as well. I'd vote for her.

The Tea Party is centered on outer space lightning rod James Traficant in Columbiana County, OH. That it has devolved into local salons of fundamental Christians in Kanawha County is unfortunate. This is the county that burned textbooks not too many years ago. What do you expect? In Ohio County the Tea Party talks about limited government and cutting spending It is true that there is often a prayer recited. It is also true that many of the blue-haired little ladies have tea bags stapled to their hat brims. Please remember that Kanawha County is not a microcosm of the known universe. Christine O'Connell was plenty cute but she wasn't a strong candidate in Delaware. Sharon Angle was not cute and she also wasn't a successful candidate in Nevada. But she came pretty close. I wouldn't write the Tea Party off because Harry Reid finds it offensive. I'd be more inclined to embrace it. Remember, the Tea Party endorses true believers over republican incumbents. True believers might be those who tout the 2nd Amendment. They might be those who decry spending public funds on abortions. Don't automatically reject a potential ally because they might say a prayer. An ally who agrees with you 80% of the time is still an ally...

It isn't only about the prayer, Jim. I'd agree with you 100% if that were all that was going on there or if that were the only group behaving in such a manner. Have you seen this "Rally in Welch" they've been trying to plan? There's no detracting them. They are convinced they're doing "God's work" and I am convinced nothing could be more dangerous than trying to do "God's work" in the political arena.

You're a pretty fair, level headed sort of guy. You weren't born yesterday and you aren't a babe in the woods. Tell me, if you will, your thoughts on the GOP gubernatorial primary, if you wouldn't mind. I'm just itching to tell you about Betty Ireland's visit to the WVMVTPP's last week and the discussion that took place afterwards.

It's not the Kanawha County TEA Party that has me worried Jim, it's the national TEA Party. I know they can win small races and put Congressmen in office but I'm not convinced they can win statewide and national races on a consistent basis.

As such, I'm afeared that many, as Rand Paul is going to do, will sell their soul to angels because their convinced it's the only way the can beat demons. I think it's a huge mistake. 2012 will be decided by Independents and the only way they won't support conservative candidates is if the promised cuts in spending are accompained by the social issues that too many on the far right are convinced go hand in hand with fiscal issues.

That's simply not the case and it is those issues that concern me, not whether or not a meeting is opened with a prayer or the Lord is discussed. Hell even a liberal Democrat who wasn't gold starred as a kid like Barrack Obama will pander by doing those things.
