Rev. Rod Parsley withdraws McCain endorsement
The Columbus Dispatch ^ | May 24, 2008 | NA

The pastor of World Harvest Church, in the Canal Winchester area, issued a statement almost identical to one he had sent late Friday night, but with one key change: the addition of the sentence “Therefore I withdraw my endorsement.”

Spokesman Gene Pierce wouldn’t shed light on Parsley’s decision, saying only “this statement is a clarification on (Friday’s) statement.”

McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, rejected the Columbus pastor’s endorsement after holding on to it for nearly three months. Parsley has criticized Islam, calling it inherently violent and saying it is “the anti-Christ religion.”

McCain also rejected Texas televangelist John Hagee's February endorsement.

Parsley is a sage! He makes Henny look like a has Binn and Hagee like a Hogee.

Well it looks like the old McCain is starting to emerge.

Lots of independents and moderate Dems used to like McCain but have cooled on him due to his kowtowing to the religious extremists.

So now that it is becoming clear he was just playing them to get the nomination will the middle of the roaders come back?

Sherm, how does McCain's absolute rejections of the endorsement of two nationally known ministers constitute playing to the vast right wing religious conspiracy?

Well terry maybe I did not state it clearly ok.

I meant to say he WAS kowtowing to them.

But now it is becoming obvious that he was only doing that to help him get the nomination.

See what I mean?

Now that he has the nomination he does not need them any more because the wackos have nowhere else to go.

Dont feel bad the Dem politicians do the same thing to us progressives.

They say good things till they get the nomination then they sound more and more like republicans.

So I feel your pain.

Sherm,

Wackos like me have many places to go rather than John McCain, and his decision to alienate us is fatal.

For example, I can go to the convenience store, the bar, the movies, the mall, or my son's soccer game, rather than go to the polls to vote for the menace.

I can also "go" to the Libertarians (on the one matter in which I prefer the Republicans to the Libertarians, abortion, I don't trust John McCain). I can "go" to the Constitution Party. I can "go" to a write in candidate. I don't have to vote for John McCain, and neither do any other "wackos."

Well yes I know that Mike.

Just like Dems dont have to vote for Obama.

But history shows the big majority will.

So lots of the wacko's will spout off like that but probably 95% of them will in the final analysis vote for McCain.

(and you have to admit some of those clips from those preachers were pretty wacked out.)

Like the one that said one of the basic reasons for the founding of America was to fight Islam.

Come on, even most wacko's dont believe that.

Do they? Rolling Eyes

While I don't necessarily agree with Rod Parsley or John Hagee, what they are stating as Christians is the EXACT same thing that some Imam is stating as a Muslim.

What you should probably understand is that the Imam’s would destroy you progressives right along with the whacko's.

And while I don't believe ANY politician should be kowtowing to any preacher, I have watched TBN and I understand the power Rod Parsley, John Hagee and Benny Hinn wield.

Personally, I'm a little more concerned with how a candidate is going to fix our energy crisis then what their pastor says. I guess that's just me, huh!!!

95% of the Christian right will not be supporting McCain, I assure you Sherm.

Just how many of us far Christian right wackos do you actually know, Sherm? Or do you find out what we think and believe from Sirius Left?

Oh I know a few.

I know a lot of them say they wont right now.

But history shows that a lot of them will in the final analysis.

In 2000 a majority of McCain voters claimed they would never vote for Bush too.

But they did.

Sherm,

Hold onto that belief when in November we vote for someone not John McCain, or fail to vote at all.

Well Mike who do you want to vote for?

If not McCain?

I know you dont like Obama.

Howbout Hillary, if she is on the ballot too?

(I recognize that's not likely in Illinois, but some states might have that option.)

If it stays close like it is now, even if Hillary only carried a couple states it would result in no one having a majority.

Then the election would be decided by the House of Reps.

And anything could happen then. Since each state only gets one vote.

I would not vote for Hillary for the same reason that I would not vote for Obama.

I don't know that I can bring myself to vote for Bob Barr. I might write in someone. If my choices are McCain, Obama, and the Green Party, I'll vote "for" the Green Party as a protest vote, which I did in the 2006 Illinois gubernatorial race when the Republicans nominated a liberal to represent them. If I have to choose a liberal, I want the "whole enchilada."
