One of the greatest days in our nation's history, but it has never been recognized as such, imo.

Someone once said the evil men do lives on after them, but the good is oft interred with their bones.

When I ponder that phrase, Lyndon Johnson comes to mind.

The Voting Rights Act should either be eliminated or extended to the fifty states. It's selective application is discriminatory and unconstitutional. It is a feel-good sop to the racial grievance mongers.

Lyndon Johnson is still a weird, twisted gasbag. He's also still dead.

Thanks for the chuckle, Jimmy! That was pretty good, not to mention very accurate.

Lyndon Johnson showed a lot of personal/political courage by shepherding the Civil Rights laws through Congress.

In doing so, he acknowledged he was ceding the South to the Republicans for a generation or more.

Actually I did not think you guys on the right would ever acknowledge the good that the Great Society programs have accomplished.

I was trying to cajole old Zig into admitting some of the good aspects of this man he despises so based on the Vietnam War.

It is a strange Disraelian tendency for a conservative professional politician to want to make a liberal mark. Nixon did it, too. Johnson was a legitimate master of the U.S. Senate and would have been more effective had he remained there.

I doubt anybody on either side would dispute the Voting Rights Act was long overdue and accomplished a good thing. Once the vote was secure and a matter of law, the Voting Rights Act outlived its usefulness and should have been allowed to expire. Now it is a slap in the face to a host of states and municipalities that do not and would not deny the vote to anyone.

I don't think you know "you guys" nearly as well as you think.

Lyndon Johnson was also a very weird guy. I believe it was Ms Kearns Goodwin, your own personal favorite, who revealed Johnson's kinky side.
