Speaking of vote fraud...
...I'm sure all of you people crying about ACORN are raging about this:
More W.Va. voters say machines are switching votes
Is Diebold going to give another election to the GOP?
L:et's go back to paper ballots. For something this important, I think we and wait a few days to get the results.

"Hear, Hear..."
Mark your ballot for who (or what) you want and drop it in the box.
If you need to do a re-count they are still right there.
The original ballots in the original box.
We only have elections every couple years normally, so what's the big deal if they have to stay a few hours longer.
I would rather know who actually won, even if it means waiting till the next morning.

Re: Speaking of vote fraud...
Based on a Gazette editorial and the observations of some early voters we're claiming vote fraud? Didn't Florida use a paper ballot in 2000?

It was also on the Channel 13 news yesterday.
Does that make it legit, OC?
C'mon. Electronic paperless machines are a concern. You can watch You Tube videos about how to hack them.

Re: Speaking of vote fraud...
These computers are confusing and intimidating to many voters.
Especially the elderly.
Heck I bet John McCain has to take Cindy in the booth with him to help him vote.
I went over and voted early and several voters were there in front of me and were clearly not comfortable with the system and had to get help.
The girls there were helpful and doing the best they could but it definitely is not a secret ballot when voters have to stand there in front of everybody and announce who they want to vote for so the poll worker can show them what to do.
The old guy in front of me was not intimidated though.
He said he wanted to vote straight Democrat and all he needed was someone to show him how.
btw if Tuesday was any indication I recommend voting early because even then I had about a 20 minute wait so there might be long lines on election day.
(also when I say "paper ballot" I dont mean punch cards. I mean the old way where you just mark your "x" by the candidate you want.)

Re: Speaking of vote fraud...
Ohio elected Jennifer Brunner, a democrat lightning rod who trashed the touch screens for paper ballots and made excuses for ACORN. She's run her office as an adjunct of the State Deomocrat Party. Is Ohio a good example of anything? It certainly merits watching...
Touch screen voting can easily be done by a second grader. The elderly can ask for help in voting. I'll be elderly myself pretty soon. I'd prefer a touch screen.

There is no transparency with electronic machines.
We bill ourselves as the greatest democracy in the world yet the voters can't verify the results?
Ohio, surely you jest?

Re: Speaking of vote fraud...
A written record is printed. Why not a second in the form of a receipt? Granted, it might be tough to read. I've never had a problem not having a receipt. There's never been any guarantee that votes are properly counted. That's always been an article of faith.

Well OC that is about the best argument for the old fashioned paper ballots.
They are still there in the box if you want to re-count them...

Re: Speaking of vote fraud...
You can't re-count them. Somebody else does that for you. You can never have 100% assurance that your vote was properly counted. The paper ballot does not accomplish that.

Re: Speaking of vote fraud...
I am with OC on this one. The "paper trail" scrolls up by that little window. You can read it before you tell the machine to confirm your vote.
I voted Tuesday afternoon- but I didn't see Sodbuster. Maybe he voted earlier in the day.
I tried playing with the touch screen to get it to do some of the crazy stuff folks had been reporting. I voted, then "unvoted", did it again and again, and it showed correctly every time.
And the paper trail is there in that roll if they decide to do a manual recount.

TRC, for someone who is always trashing Christians and Christianity .......... why in hell are you now claiming belief in Miracles.
YUP, .... W.Va. voters say machines are switching votes ...... but the voter is the only one to see it happen.
No one else witnessed it happening to the voter so like all Miracles, it must be true, .........
and no one will ever know for sure because of ......... to wit:
On Wednesday, Ireland said all voters who reported problems said they were able to cast their votes correctly eventually.
No wonder WV is so f'ing backward and socio-economically limited, ..... we have too damn many state employees with advanced degrees ...... but believe in magic and Miracles because they ain't smart enough to know any better.

Re: Speaking of vote fraud...
I don't know about Jackson County but in Putnam County, which allegedly has the same problems of switching votes as Jackson County, the voter has a choice of voting with EITHER the touch screen machine OR a paper ballot.
If you want paper balloting, it’s there and it’s your choice. Everyone in Putnam County that is complaining could have easily ask for a paper ballot but didn’t.
Seems Mt. Everest is being made out of a mole hill to me and the only reason I can think of is that it’s a pre-excuse in case John McCain wins WV.
That's my 2 cents.

Confirm your intelligence, TRC.
When you go to vote, ........ be sure to make a protest to the Poll Workers by claiming "that damn EVM tried to steal my vote 17 times but I kept fighting it and finally voted the way I wanted too".

I always use a bubble sheet, Sammy. Electronically countable but with a paper trail.
Rant on.
