Roll your eyes all you like - the comparison is valid.

TerryRC,
The comparison is not valid, as the behavior of gay sex is not the same as the sexual preference for those of the same gender.

No, Terry I didn't reply because I have said everything that I need to say. I will not rent to homosexual couples, adulterous couples, or unmarried couples. I don't care much what the politicans have to say about the matter or what the law says, I won't rent or sell to the groups I mentioned and that is that. Any politican that has supported laws that would require me to rent to these people need not worry about my vote or support and can figure I am working hard to see them removed from office. There is nothing more to say about the matter.

The comparison IS valid. The mixed marriages bit... . Such marriage were illegal in some states. In Utah, it was based on religious reasons - mormons see blacks as sub-humans.
Was the fed ruling that Utah recognize such marriages really forcing some people to "bend their will"? Absolutely. Was it needed? Absolutely.

I assume you feel the same about politicians that would and have protect(ed) your rights and beliefs.
It is illegal for me to refuse to rent to or hire you because of your christian beliefs but it is NOT illegal for you to deny same, based on your christian beliefs.
Surely you see that is the government FORCING me to bend to your will.
Like I said, you are more interested in being a martyr than renting units.

It is more important to me to live up to the principles I hold dear than to brush them aside for the sake of money or popularity. Obviously, you have a different view.

My view is that you use your religion as an excuse to discriminate. Did the Christ even mention gays? I don't remember that. I do remember something about loving thy brother.
So how about the hypocrisy that your religious beliefs are protected from discrimination by the government forcing me to bend to your will, as I quite clearly pointed out above when you cried out about the government, state or federal (I assume) using "force" to bend you to their will:

You have no problem with the government using force to bend others to YOUR will.

Then I guess that will have to be your view.

This is your same old argument. You are not forced by law to particiapte in or support anything regarding christainity.

This nation was established ont he principle that people not be forced to particiapte in policies to which they disagree. That is a principle I hold very dear. As I have told you time and again, and you seem to have ignored, I have no right to force myviews on you using the force of law to do so, neither do you have the right to force your views on me. However, you support laws that do force your views on me, which seem to me hypocritical.

So was it Christ that told you to war on the gays?
This is your same old argument. You are not forced by law to particiapte in or support anything regarding christainity.
Not so. I can't refuse to rent to you because you are a christian but you can refuse to rent to gays because you are a christian.
So tell me about government force pushing beliefs or acceptance on individuals? You should know - you are benefiting from it.
That is the true hypocrisy here. You have the protection of the fed but heaven forbid anyone else get it.

All we are doing is spinning our wheels here. I won't rent to a homosexual couple that that is that, anti discrimination law or no, I won't do it. If that makes me a bigot fine, it makes me a bigot. If it makes me a hypocrit fine, then I'm a hypocrit. I'll wear either title with pride, but I' not going to rent to homosexual couples, just as I won't rent to adulterous or unmarried couples.
So far as I'm concerned we have nothing further to discuss.

You aren't interested in running a business, you are interested in making a statement of judgment and possible martyrdom.
It makes you no different than someone that won't rent to a mixed race couple or a jewish couple - a bigot.
You take federal protection from discrimination but refuse to support expanding the franchise - that makes you a hypocrite.
To wear both of those titles with pride speaks volumes of you and your "morals".

This is perhaps the longest running thread on this forum or its predecessor Gazette forums- not the most posts- but the longest running in time, more than 6 months.
