GOP's ad wanted 'hicky, blue collar' look Empty GOP's ad wanted 'hicky, blue collar' look

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A GOP TV ad in West Virginia's U.S. Senate race was seeking a 'hicky' look for its actors, and Democrats are crying foul.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee ad shows men in flannel shirts and ball caps talking about Gov. Joe Manchin, the Democratic candidate.

Democrats released its casting call. The ad was filmed in Philadelphia. Its producers sought a "'Hicky' Blue Collar'' look. Clothing options included beat up John "Deer'' hats and a "Dickie's type jacket with t-shirt underneath.''

Advancing a key GOP theme, the ad says Manchin will side with President Barack Obama if elected.

The website Politico first reported on the casting call. The GOP says an outside firm composed it. But Republican candidate John Raese called the ad ridiculous Thursday.

I remind you that Manchin all but got on his knees and kissed Obama's butt during the Democratic National Convention. He did so with full knowledge of stood Obama stood for. I guess he should have thought about that before now.

As far as the rest of your post goes, Republicans aren't the only ones spinning the media. Far from it as a matter of fact.

Had Joe Manchin but become a Republican in keeping with his true political sentiments years ago, he would still be exactly the same guy- but without all that Democratic Party baggage. But his quest for legendary WV Democratic Party political expediency is coming home to roost- and to bite him on the butt.

He did not. He must, therefore, suffer the consequences.

Am I alone in believing that his manipulating the process of choosing Byrd's successor hurt him? WVians like Manchin as Governor. They don't like him as a pawn of Obama. Manchin had a ruling by the Secretary of State: he could appoint a replacement so long as the unexpired term was greater than twenty-four months. It was. So Manchin prompted Darrell McGraw, the country's least ethical State Attorney General, to make yet another ruling more to his liking: a special election was required to replace Byrd. Subsequently, the Secretary of State agreed with the Attorney General. Manchin engineered a situation where others mandated his running to succeed Byrd rather than appointing himself or a temporary replacement. The fix was in. We re-elected him governor by a huge margin. We want him to serve.
